Here's a watch I picked up a bit ago, got it thrown in with another watch I bought.. Im thinking it's pretty much a parts watch, any other opinions? Is it worth being a project?

I think the biggest challenge would be to find a replacement dial. But if you have no immediate need for the parts, you could just hang onto it and keep your eyes open.

Anybody have parts to donate to the cause? Lol I'm half joking but almost kinda serious if I can get parts cheap... It needs a dial, a gold handset and I'm going to guess the movement is gonna need parts

Might be a cool project but it will definitely be expensive

It all depends on the watchmaker. The holes for the mainspring barrel tend to go oval on these, and they have to be fixed, generally by inserting a bushing, which is not as easy as it seems, because a person has to locate that hole precisely. The date at 6 watches, of which I have a 2627 version, are fun to own. But getting the 353/355 movement in 100% condition may be costly.

Your case, however, looks like it's unmolested and not beat up. So maybe find a watch with a beatup case and swap?

After tinkering with it for a while, I figured out why it wasn't running.. After removing the bumper there was a loose screw just above the escape wheel and the escape wasn't set into the jewels.. So I wonder if that's all it needs or if it created more damage

I second SkunkPrince’s suggestion of a complete innards swap. With a bit of patience a completely beat up watch with decent innards should be relatively easy to find. You can then sell the other watch an recoup part of the investment.

Thanks for the advice skunk and pmontoyap, i think that's the best route for me to go, even if it's a no calender seamaster I'd be happy

Interesting, so there it went. I was bidding on the auction with this dial/movement for parts on eBay a few days ago, until it suddenly vanished, a couple hours before ending…

Good luck with that project!

You gotta give an old man some time to reply. 😉 It’s done now, thanks for the message Matt.

Lots of opinions about whether it is worth returning to health. But the only person whose assessment of its worth, is you. I spent more than what mine is worth, returning it to health. Including locating a new case for it. Do it! You’ll love it!

These 2627/2757 's are nice desirable watches, especially ones with a guilloche dial. BTH some 2627s have the later trapezoid date window. Good luck with the parts search, they are out there.
