What the heck did I buy: monocoque Seamaster with arrowhead markers?

This was an impulse buy in an auction without enough time to research. Kind of questionable as a whole, but some interesting parts. These are the seller's photos, I will try to get photos of the inside when it arrives.

Any guesses?

Well, ‘61-62 had the hanger S in the front loader as a pre-Deville- Deville. I had one with a different dial but original “peanut” bracelet (also only made for one year). Never seen those markers or the two-tone in that case though- very interesting.

The lack of bezel around the date window I find out of keeping with this era but I don’t see any evidence that one was ever there- even more interesting.

Came from Japan, FWIW, consistent with the no-lume.

Looks like a 14770 but not sure what’s going on with the date window.

Looks like the date surround is missing.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's true.

I will add that I have seen this dial before, the short no lume hands are totally in keeping with the dial. I need to dig through my files to see if I have photos.

it's a 14770 arrowhead markers with missing date window. A nice uncommon Seamaster indeed. Congratz!

As always, very impressed about the depth of knowledge on the forum ... and the generous spirit of sharing.

TBH, I'm pleasantly surprised about the hands being correct. I will keep my eyes open for a spare SMDV dial to scavenge a white date window surround.

Correct. I keep an eye on YJ auctions pretty regularly. You never know what turns up.

Buyee usually. Just be careful. Not only can't you make a return (even in the case of blatant fraud), but Buyee won't even communicate with the seller or leave a negative review on your behalf. It is 100% total buyer-beware. The only leverage you have is via PayPal or your credit card. And you can only do that once, because if you reverse charges, Buyee will eat the cost, and your account is gone forever.

A lot of what you post here is not true, I've had Buyee communicate with a seller on my behalf a couple of times and even managed to get them to help with taking a fraudulent listing down. You can also pay an extra fee and they will varify (at a superficial level) if what was sold is actually in the box before shipping... of course this isn't an authenticity check but it's peace of mind. All of that being said, in general caution should always be practiced when purchasing online.

My comments are totally true from my experience. That’s good to know that they were willing to communicate with a seller for you, but I have not had that experience. I asked them to do that a couple of time and they just refused but maybe they have some discretion with that.

I have paid for them to do the inspection and the photos they sent weren’t helpful. I guess it was enough to know the seller didn’t send a rock.

Overall I still think you’re on your own with Buyee. It’s not the same as a typical online purchase where you have some recourse or at least can contact the seller. A seller once sent me a fake Rolex bracelet that was different from the photos in the listing. Buyee absolutely refused to do anything about it. Would not contact the seller, would not leave a negative review. Nothing. I was just out $1k.

Yes, you're pretty much on your own, that's right, and to be fair I only purchase through Mercari which may be an easier platform, than Yahoo, for the contact people at Buyee to communicate through. Personally I've only had good experiences with Buyee and have managed, through vigilance and patience, to find some pretty mint watches.

I have made literally dozens of purchases from YJ using Buyee and overall I’m very happy. I just wanted to post a warning so people understand that they are just a proxy bidder. Not a seller or an e-commerce platform. I suspect some people might think it’s just like buying on eBay.
