What spring bars would this have originally had?

Ca. 1958: stainless, or brass? And typically, on pierced lug cases, should the tip of the bar go all the way to the edge of the case when mounted? 1/2 way in? 3/4? Thanks.

I suspect it would have been brass, probably plated. The tips should be at least 3/4 of the depth of the lug and definitely not protruding.

I've found vintage watches/straps of that era where the springbars had considerable amounts of verdigris, which wouldn't be the case with SS ones.

Thanks, Jim. When you say plated, I’m assuming with something like nickel, or some other white-colored metal? Over the years, on watches with less-beefy lugs, I’ve seen the brass/gold bars go to where the tips are visible at the edge. I guess for aesthetics, they used a similar-colored metal. Have you seen this? For example:
