hi, my dad left me his watch when he died, it's been sat in a drawer for the last 15 years, terrible I know, but I found it after I moved following my divorce.
It's a Seamaster De Ville automatic with date window but not the fast change, but having searched I have a couple of questions that I hope the knowledgable members can answer please.
The rear casing Omega logo has waterproof within the logo but all other pictures I've seen don't show it like that. No T on the Swiss made so no luminosity anywhere on the face
Inside the case says 166.020, I looked that up on the omega database but still not sure.
The movement looks right, but I'm still not sure exactly what this watch is, and what year it was made. The bracelet is way wrong, not Omega, looks horrible. There are some hand written. numbers within the case, any ideas what they could be?
I'm interested as I may sell it to fund an Omega Pro as I love the look of the, I've got a Tag that's my everyday watch,
    Thanks
    Mick

1966, movement caliber 562, written numbers are service marks from watchmakers.
    Gold capped?
Looks good and your right, that band aaaaaaaarrrrg. Find a nice alligator or croc strap, black or brown. You might want to keep it when you see the difference.

Hi, thanks, I was in the right area but wasn't sure. No idea where dad got this, I think he bought it used so no real attachment to be honest.
I will replace the strap though. Still think I may sell it and buy something that's more me.
Not sure about gold capped, no hallmarks that I've found while cleaning it, would there be any??
Thanks for that link too, that is more info than I expected.
    Thanks
    Mick.

Gold capped, not the same as gold plate. I am sure someone here can give a better explanation than I can.

Just googled it, interesting read, found a thread that refers to Seamaster's so it is very possibly gold capped. The crystal is badly scratched on this, off to google how to improve it.
    Thanks again

Gold capped is basically a gold "shell" around the stainless base metal of the watch. Depending on the style, you may actually see this when looking at the back of the watch. Nice watch, most likely in need of a service by now. But as you want to sell it, should not be a must do for you. But it may take away from the asking price. As nice as it is, and it is in nice condition, its value is driven by other similar watches of the type. Might only be about $400-$500 USD on EBAY, okay maybe a bit more. But not knowing it service history and expecting to pay for one, I personally would not pay more than I stated and perhaps actually a bit less. And that is if you get rid of the horrible strap.

Poly watch. Recommended all across this board for taking scratches out of crystals.

Thank you, poly watch just purchased.
Just a strap to buy now, then its coming apart again for a deeper clean, not the quick wipe it got a couple of days ago!!
Then, not sure yet, it doesn't do it for me as it is but willing to try with a new strap.
    Thanks
    Mick

Hi, just wanted to say thanks for the polywatch recommendation. Arrived today, only had a 15 minute go and already it's a massive massive improvement, so thank you. Also new strap on order, pics will be updated when it's done.

Be sure to post. I'll be looking for it. It looked very good to begin with, will look much better with a proper strap.

image.jpeg image.jpeg New strap fitted, not genuine but has a look alike buckle. I've also leaned it some more, looking very good now I must admit. Still not my thing to be honest so it's for sale.
Thanks for all the advice, my girlfriend is truly amazed at what I've been able to do with this.
I also had a scratch across the buckle on my Tag, cape cod cloth bought, scratch has almost gone after one quick play, it will be as new later tonight. I've cleaned a Gucci watch of hers, her Tag has has had a clean, she has a bretitling that was her husbands, he died sadly, which she is digging out for me to do with whatever I can.
Again, thanks for all the advice, help and encouragement, this may well be the start of a new hobby for me.

Sad that it's not to your liking. Not sure is sentimental value is up there or not, but it is yours and you can do what you want with it. It did turn out real nice and will make someone happy. And if this did kick start you on this hobby, so be it. Enjoy it while you can and look for something more your style. Since is a watch is not worn, it is just collecting dust. Good luck.

I agree...the right strap can totally transform a classic watch like that...seriously!
Oops....I see that you did that already...sorry it didn't change your mind....yeah, maybe time to let it go...just make sure you won't regret it.
