What Rolex might I have had?

Before I became really WIS about watches, I bought a Rolex Submariner in Singapore in about 1978 / 1979.

It came from Peter Chew Emporium and was a full box set with cards and a little anchor. I didn't keep the box or the cards (it was only "packaging" to me at the time) ::facepalm1::

The dial may have had "superlative chronometer" and it was a no date model, standard bezel and fitted with a bracelet.

Can any of the Rolex wizards give me an idea of what model it may have been?

BTW, I sold the watch after a divorce and 20 or so years continual wear for about four times what paid for it, I still hit myself sometimes for doing that.

sounds more like a 5512 (if chronometer rated), serial about 5.7 to 5.9 million serial number.

yep, missed the chronometer part. 5am was early today! I revise to agree with Omegastar, 5512 if it said chronometer, 5513 if it didn't

last year for 5512 was 1978
if no date and Superlative on dial
then 5512 is right.

Thanks All,

I'll Google both and see if anything triggers my old brain.

I loved that thing to death, wore it every day on flight lines and in workshops, weekend swimming and drinking, and then in offices for about ten years until I let a mere divorce upset my reasoning and I sold it. I didn't even need the money, damn.

I'd like to get another, but realise the price of an identical aged one might be prohibitive but I'll start trawling the interweb and see what tickles my fancy..

Cheers

Jim

Ouch, the one that got away...
I feel your pain, the 5512 is an awesome timepiece. Here's wishing you the best in your hunt for a replacement Sub (you might want to look at the non-chronometer rated 5513, an equally great watch that will be easier source).
