Hello

I hope someone can help me.

This was my auntie's watch and I inherited it upon her death.

It has the original box, paperwork, leather strap and I believe from the inscription it was for working at the company for 21 years.

According to the paperwork it is movement number is 18138064 and is 9ct gold. I looked online and the movement number seems to date the watch to 1961. I don't want to open it because I do not want to scratch the case as the watch looks to be almost immaculate even though she wore it every day.

Does it have any kind of value - do I need to get it insured?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Fi

Lovely little watch in nice condition. The monetary value is probably slightly above the gold price but it’s a lovely heirloom and probably has much greater sentimental value

Following on from David above, at a rough guess, there will be 10g+ of 9K gold in the case so you are looking at a minimum value of £400. Ladies cocktail watches are not in great demand from collectors (who are predominantly men it must be said) and as noted demand is not huge but it is not non-existent. The problem is to make it run right could cost you or the buyer nearly as much as that again. This fixed cost is a problem for watches in this price range and suppresses values over the gold value somewhat.

If you insure for replacement cost then I would say £800
Or just keep in bank box unless a lady in family wishes to wear it
It’s a very nice and well kept heirloom.
