What is this watch and how do I take care of it?

Hi all. New user and customer... saved up for my first watch and got the classic moonwatch.

My grandpa has an omega that he bought between 1960-1962 in Argentina. It is all gold (according to him it’s neither rose nor yellow gold but I’m not sure what he means by that) and it is a time only watch. The only picture I can find of it is this one. Can someone tell me what kind of omega this is please? I apologize for the poor photo. I have been trying to find the watch but he hasn’t worn it in 10+ years.

If and when I find it, what steps do I take to ensure that I can wear the watch without breaking it? Thanks.

Hard to tell from those pictures.

Service by a Watchmaker with a Omega parts account and your all set.

Don't take it to Omega ( will charge you a lot and change too many parts ) and make sure the watchmaker knows you want it to stay original and you don't want it polished
Let us know what country you are in and someone might be able to help out with a service place for you.

Well, quite an ask to say the least!!

To me, assuming it is an Omega, which isn't clear from the photo, it looks like a 1950's manual wind with sub-seconds dial.

I'd say something perhaps similar to a ref 2619 with cal. 285. It could also be a different reference really hard to tell, it could also be a national production case which would complicate things further. Omega made a huge amount of different referenced watches. Here's a 1950s 2619 I sold a few years ago to compare. There were many different dials for these Omega's from the 1950's, so don't let that confuse you. If you do find it come back with better pictures 😀

I will I’m sorry. Thank you very much for trying! I should’ve waited until I found the watch but it has such an interesting story behind it that I’ve been too excited to wait.

Any recommendations on how to care for it? I assume I should send it to omega ASAP for servicing.

If that is a stretch bracelet, remove it and throw it in the trash. Then buy a leather strap for it.
