What is the specific function of this Omega “pad” included with my recently purchased 105.003?

Yes I have seen these pads before. Once circa 2011-2012 as part of a full set 105.012 that a fellow enthusiast had (among several watches), and recently as part of a full set 145.022-69. I’ve also seen them pictured occasionally with a couple other premoon Speedmasters when shown with boxes and papers.
