What if you also want health or fitness tracking?

I wear a mechanical watch every day, but as smart watches add more and more features for health tracking, I've thought about how to get the best of both worlds. Not really wanting to double fist it with a smart watch, I've decided to order a health tracking band to wear on my other wrist. In addition to all sorts of fitness and sleep tracking, this year these are also coming with a "pulse oximeter" which measures the oxygen level in your blood. This is important for people training, with sleep apnea (80% of those who are unaware they have it), and they are also finding that some people with minor COVID-19 symptoms have seriously low blood oxygen levels and seek medical assistance too late. I will take a picture wearing this along with a watch when it arrives.

Hopefully I have posted this in the proper section.

This is the ONLY reason I wish Apple would make a wearable that isn't in the form factor of the current Apple Watch. I like my Swiss automatics and won't forego them to wear an Apple Watch. But every time I try another platform (Garmin, Fitbit, Polar) that provides a wearable I am disappointed 馃う The one in the picture looks like a Garmin, what model is it 馃槙

Yeah, I didn't want to plug a brand but rather talk about the issue in general, but it is a Garmin Vivosmart 4.

I don't much like them. I think the problem is partly materials and partly required size.
You can't have the functionality of a rechargeable and wifi compatible sports watch without it being bulky and graceless, I feel. That said, as sports watches go, this is reasonably attractive. The Polar Vantage V.

I got tired of wearing my Apple watch after I wore it for a few months and it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I wish it fit around my ankle.

I have a fitbit that I wear when I exercise and my phone keeps reasonably good track of how far I鈥檓 walking each day. I really like fitbit鈥檚 app. I also use their scale to keep track of my weight.

Same... In the end I just stopped liking it even aesthetically. Apple have done great things in the design, but it's very hard to get away from a bulky wristphone

I still wear it for running though, because then it really is phenomenal: stopwatch, GPS tracker / map, pacemaker, heart rate monitor, mp3 / podcast player, phone (calls / sms), wallet, weather guide, etc etc.......

I wonder if the health tracking functions would work if you had a strap that allowed this?!

I see that people can add an image of an omega dial or rolex dials etc on their apple watches. Interesting!

I used to have a fairly discreet fatbit and wore it on my right wrist, after about 6 months the strap broke and I lost it. I liked knowing how much sleep I鈥檇 had but the other info and it really didn鈥檛 change that much, so felt no inclination to replace.

Mrs STANDY had a fitbit flex bracelet type that the puppy ate the bit. Looking for it around the house when the dogs running around the backyard getting her step count up.
I could have bet money it would have still charged and worked the following day. But she wasn鈥檛 interested.

I'm trying to figure out same. I bought a Timex GPS watch and it works great cindering the price. And it's been no problem wearing an Omega on one wrist and the Timex on the other, but once this covid virus lockdown ends, I am not thinking madddogging is going to make a lot of sense.

I'm going to keep monitoring this thread. Mainly I'm wanting to track my sleep patterns.

With a Fitbit Charge 3 you can track sleep patterns. Here's a screenshot:

Could you think of considering Whoop?
Their strap and measuring is quite discreet and wears well on your opposite hand.

I have the winning answer for you: buy yourself a Fitbit (I use the Charge 2) with a large strap, and strap that bad boy around your ankle as someone mentioned above. I鈥檝e been doing this for around 8 months, and it works like a charm. No need to ever look at it, as it connects to the app on your phone and you can just check your phone. Step count is even more accurate than when worn around the wrist, heart rate works accurately for me, and it frees up my wrist for a real watch (14060 today). Cheers.

I like the look and features of Whoop but I do not like a subscription for their service. Especially when a Fitbit is so cheap and does all the basics. There is definitely a market for the Whoop, but i'm not in it. Im tempted by the 5 day battery life but not enough to jump.
