To all of those who are arguing that Obamacare is bad and should be done away with, Bless Your Heart!

Bless Your Heart from urban dictionary
1. This is a term used by the people of the southern United States particularly near the Gulf of Mexico to express to someone that they are an idiot without saying such harsh words.

2. "You are an idiot but I like you and care about you so I dont want to hurt your feelings."

Sorry for taking you literally. Definitely lost on me.

I was going to give you the Monty Python "Argument Sketch" next. 😀😜

Me too, the first time I heard it. I'm from the Midwest with lots of displaced southerners here. Once it was explained to me I thought, what a great comment to make to people. Been using it a lot.

Mitt Romney, a Republican governor, implemented a plan very similar to Obamacare in Massachusetts. He was forced by the party to disavow it when he ran for President in 2012.

Which is a pity, because as far as I can tell, it's working decently here. People who hate it are usually those who are lucky enough to not need it.

Up until this, I had no idea who John Oliver is. Gonna look for his program now because that was great.
Oliver lambasted Stephen Harper last year during the Canadian federal election. It may have been the tipping point that took him out.

Although I enjoyed that episode, it was clearly nothing new to anyone who has lived in Canada over the last 10 years. I doubt it had much impact at all really and I think Mr. Harper did a fine job of taking himself out.

As with any form of social service (save firefighting) in the United States, really

True enough. Mostly wishful thinking on the power of satire on my part

I would give more credit to Rick Mercer and This Hour has 22 Minutes if I was handing satire credits out. But really it was 10 years of nastiness, and an election campaign that had to be one of the worst ever anywhere - I think that campaign will be studied for decades to come. I hear a book is being written - provisional title is "How to shoot yourself in the foot in 78 days" or something like that. 😉

No alternative offered and none to come because the desire is to combine increased coverage with decreased costs without raising taxes. Simply not possible.

Way back during the health care debates Freakonmics had a great episode with several economists calling the ACA a band-aid (at best) and explaining that if you want to "fix" the system you have two choices.
1. Make health insurance illegal and strictly a pay what you can system that would immediately drive down prices but of course run the risk that people won't get care.
2. Single payer, which runs the risk that if payments are too small it provides a disincentive to doctors and hospitals to enter markets and pressures for higher volume when that might not be best.

Ideas like buy out-of-state insurance were basically laughed at because the ability of insurance companies to negotiate prices is dependent on how strong they are in a market. If you live in say Oklahoma and Arkansas Blue Cross is cheaper in part because Arkansas doctors will take $55 for an office visit, buying an Arkansas Blue Cross plan doesn't do you much good if Oklahoma doctors won't accept any insurance paying less than $60 per visit.
