Space is like Bacon ::psy::

What the astronauts are smelling are polcyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which form during combustion, which occurs during the death of stars. You probably (hopefully) won't be smelling them in space any time soon, because you'd die, but you can smell them in bacon right here on Earth

If the aromas found in space might be from the death of stars, how fast do aromas travel in space, if light travels at 186,000 miles per second? Aroma from the death of a star might be sensed billions of years after the star had “flamed out” entirely. Hard to grasp the entirety of outer space.

The Australian Academy of Science (yes I was also very surprised that they had one of those) made some good points on the 'smell' of space and possible causes (Link below) Burnt steak seems to win the vote. I do also recall reading a long time ago that the sterile environment / purified air of a spacecraft (I think the shuttle in the article I recall) meant a lack of smells became an issue for some astronauts and they used to crave / fight over lemon scented paper napkins for a nice smell 'hit' . Maybe that was another reason for the Transtellar Cruise Lines 900 year flight delay :0)

Maybe we were all born under a wondering star / for sure we were all made from star dust.... So we are all stars :0)

I can smell a Speedmaster LE with a bacon dial. Impossible to resist now I know bacon goes with space the same as it goes with eggs.

May also be the pressurized environment - sort of like the way being on an airplane at high altitude mutes taste and smell. Astronauts are also said to cheekily fight over hot sauce since it's one of the few things they can taste up there 😀

Well, I'll say this. If the universe DOESN'T smell like bacon, it SHOULD. It would be a tastier place to live.
