Ive never owned a speedmaster, wanted to buy one now for over a decade and im finally in a spot financially to own one. Im a pilot and picky when it comes to the history of moonwatches and one that ill probably own for the rest of my life. A local watch shop has a 145.0049 model with the box and papers. Theyre asking 6800, ill post the link at the bottom. Im curious what people think of this model and if thats a good price point for one?

Usually people refer to this as a first gen FOIS. It has been a bit overshadowed by the second gen, which has an incredible dial.

But it is a very attractive reference. I think the condition of this particular one is a bit worn for the price though. I don't keep up with the price for these, but I am relatively certain that is pretty high.

And can you post pictures, not links? It helps in the case the link is taken down.

I’ve lost touch with prices, but $6,800 seems like a bit much for a first generation FOIS. And given that these were first introduced in 2012, I’d want to know the exact age and if it had been serviced.

More to the point, though, this one looks like it has a lot of scratches around the backs of the lugs, perhaps from careless strap changes. Take a look at the seller’s last picture, on the bottom two lugs (either side of the fancy fingernail). I would pass on this piece and look for a better example.

You would do better to check C24 on ref 311.32.40.30.01.001 for asking prices to get one cheaper.

yeah, it looks like even Ebay has them listed for sale ~$5k all-day, in at least equal shape to this one. Which means you could do a make-an-offer for mid-high 4s and probably be successful.

So this is a bit of an overpay.

The back of the lugs wouldn't bother me, and the rest of the watch is really sharp, I think it is a great first-speedy reference. That said, I understand a willingness to 'overpay' for a local shop, but ~30% over-price is perhaps a bit much. I'd probably see if I could negotiate them (using ebay listings!) down to ~$5500 or so if it was me, and be happy with a minor overpay for a local shop.

THAT SAID: Unless this one hits you 'harder' than a hesalite: You can get a standard Speedmaster Professional Hesalite 1861/older 3861 for ~$4500 or so (probably less, I paid less than 4k for mine only ~3 years ago). AND it would be on bracelet. SO, consider whether this one is worth a ~10% premium in THAT regard as well.
