What do you think this Railmaster?

Okay.

I took a deep breath and stepped away from the keyboard and here's what I think now.

The "winning" bidder, this t*** with no history is not a shill but an idiot screwing up an auction of a collectible item. I wonder if I could assume that our fair OP is this a***s the first "loser". The seller, a sterling fellow, offers the first loser a chance to outright buy the piece for some price that just happens to be higher than the fantasy bid that t*** put in. Second Chance I think it's called on eBay.

I would counter offer my highest losing bid if I really, really wanted the item. Even then I'd be sort off uneasy because the auction was queered by the idiot. I'd wonder if I was not paying a market set price after all but one that is too high for this item.

If I were the seller mind you I would take my lumps and start over with a new auction. But that's just me. Maybe that's the wrong thing to do. But it seems right to me.
Well, I'm the a***s. To be fair to the seller, I reach him first, only because it doesn't seem t*** will pay for this legit watch.
The only concern holds me as you said "I'd wonder if I was not paying a market set price after all but one that is too high for this item."

If Achim (watchyouwant) know the seller, probably OP better PM him directly rather than bringing the debates here.
It is a rare enough watch that you might want to proceed further albeit carefully.
Agree, I will try to PM Achim for more information about seller.
End of thread, Thank you all

It is a surprise to me if a "reputed" seller would offer a sold auction to another buyer at a higher price. This seems well against eBay terms of service and unethical at best.

That is, unless the original buyer did not pay which we have no way of knowing.

Even so, I would never accept an offer HIGHER than the failed final bid. If anything it should be lower, since obviously nobody was willing to pay that amount.

Unless anyone really knows who the seller is, I think the community has yet to discover whether or not the seller is in fact trustworthy or not.

I can't believe the condescension that surfaces here occasionally.

the watch looks legitimate. I don't know the seller, but having followed quite a few of these PAF watch auctions in the past, and bid on too many to remember, they do seem to end up often in this pattern of bidding with off record offer to second highest bidder.

Why are you guys saying shill bidders? I see bidding against a reserve.
