This one is listed for about 7700 USD, and does not come with box or papers but is listed on Bob’s and is authenticated. I like the patina, which to me, is the major selling point for this watch. The watch has been polished, the chamfers are there but not very sharp. There is also a little bit of metal missing from the right sided lug on the reference side of the watch. What do you guys think?
According to my ref materials ... seems all correct. Original bracelet/end links which for me is a big deal. the ding, well its a used tool watch.
Agree it was on the high side in terms of pricing. Got it down a little, but was willing to pay for the authentication and also that nice patina, which should evolve with time. I’ve been doing a lot of reading on Rolex fakes, and although the 14060 is considered a relatively safe reference, I just couldn’t spend this kind of money without going through a reputable dealer that has authenticated the watch, even if that means spending a few extra hundred dollars. Some of the fakes out there are ridiculously good.
Nice patina; price slightly high given no B&P, which hurts given , like you said, the number and quality of fakes... but if you're going to keep and not sell down the road that means less i spose.
Very true, but given what I’ve seen selling on Chrono 24 and RolexForums without B/P, this seems like a price that’s within the ballpark, especially when you consider the patina.
You are also paying for a one-year warranty, which gives you some piece of mind. All in all, if you find you love wearing the watch, you won't mind "overpaying" slightly.
Yup, the cost savings was going to be about 500 dollars going through a private sale, and to me the warranty and the authentication were worth the extra money. Also, this one had a particularly nice patina that seemed unique when compared to most other 14060s that I looked at.
The patina is good but there is spotting on many of the hour markers. May not bug you but would bug me (I'm used to looking at a mint dial 14060) I have seen plenty of early 90s 14060's with better patina out there box/papers for less. Keep in mind, the box/papers help with authentication. I wouldn't be nearly as worried about a fake early 90s sub as I would re-lumes, replacement parts/frankenwatch etc. I don't think the fakes back then are anything like they are on the fakes now on modern Rolex. I guarantee you with patience you could find better condition, patina, and box/papers for same cost or less as this one. Just my two cents. I don't think there's any need to rush into buying this one. There are plenty of them out there.
Agree with all the above and as a keeper, worth paying a premium. Does Bob perform a factory service on their watches before sale? That would be a huge selling feature and worth $5-700 right there.
Patience is definitely a virtue. But at some point, I just want a Rolex. Lol. This one checked off most of my boxes, even though it’s not perfect. I kind of like the imperfections, honestly. Also, definitely not looking to sell any of my watches, ever.
Here she is. Did I pay a dealer price? Yes. Would I do it again? Yes. Trusting that this is an authentic Rolex, recently serviced by a Rolex-certified watchmaker, just gives me the piece of mind that I need. I’m not sure if it’s justified, but Rolex scares me more than other brands and I need a little bit of hand-holding when purchasing one.
It's a very pretty and honest looking sub- and I agree with your original post about it, the patina is very even and attractive. Best part is it's real, and it's yours. Congrats!
This just validates my concerns: https://omegaforums.net/threads/scam.103918/ Anything less than 6500 for these raises huge alarm bells for me.
I mostly agree- but we have had a few veteran members sell them around $6k recently- just depends on the condition, model, and accoutrements. That particular situation, the watch was real- the member had his info hacked.
Lowest one I’ve seen on this forum recently was around 6400. Maybe it actually sold for less. Who knows what the agreed upon price was, but it sold in less than one day.
You got a great watch- enjoy it and stop shopping or thinking about the price, you love it, it’s yours-never look back.
End of the day you are happy and not financially ruined you are good. You paid more from a reputable place with a warranty. I’ve heard some negative things about bobs but never any fakes. Enjoy that watch
