Dial looks okay, in desperate need of cleaning, hands and the omega text also need cleaning…
Cal and serial num matches the era and the model. I don’t know about the crown… glass obviously not original as I see it, and the quick date change that doesn’t work a bit weird to me.
The deal breaker really is the price, is is just me or the watch is over priced?
I’d be more than happy to read your opinions.

How are you planning to 'clean' this dial?

It's a hard pass for me and I would run away from this watch.

I'd rather spend the money on a colonoscopy, much less painful in the end.

I don’t know actually, just throwing words around hopefully it’s treatable. I can understand from your response it’s not 😀

If you manage to get it as you wish to be, it will need to be redial. I am unsure what else can it be then to remove all from dial and "refurbish" it.

This is a well used watch of a proctologist 😀

From the listing:
"The watch is mechanically sound and works..."
Two lines below
"quick change of date does not work"
😁😁

The gentleman above have already provided an eloquent summary of the condition, so to add to your question regarding price: It would not be a bargain at a third of the money. Even if it was in incredible shape, it wouldn’t be worth near what the seller is asking. I do hope nobody falls for this crap.

I thought so. I asked him if he will accept less than third of the price and I think I offended him

I’m not surprised, haven’t heard of an instance where offering less than third of the original asking was actually accepted by the seller. Anyway:

More importantly, forget the value for a second. Is this what you want? As a ground rule, dials cannot be cleaned (there are a few exceptions when done by the right folks, but let’s ignore that for now). Let’s say you’d get it for 400$. So you’d invest more to make it run and then you’d wear a very, very dirty watch, with the only remedy the thought that it was pretty cheap?

If you’re patient, save up and get the watch you really like, that’s aesthetically pleasing, however, you’ll enjoy it. A couple years after buying it, you might have forgotten what the actual cost was, but it wouldn’t matter - you’re enjoy a nice timepiece that doesn’t trigger thoughts about excuses every time you look at it.

Q: How do you say 'colonoscopy' in Italian?

A: Innuendo.

I'm going to go in the opposite direction. That particular Constellation was a limited production for Japan in the late '60s along with two other variations, both gold capped. (A friend has one of the capped versions with a black dial.) It is, as far as I know, the only steel Constellation from the first decades of production that were limited in number. This particular one is complete and correct. It's not in good shape overall, but then, how many do you see of this version that are?

I've had this photo in my files for ten years. If an example like this came up again, you could smell the plastic burning in my wallet instantly.

The example on offer now isn't pristine, but what are the chances of finding one in substantially better shape? I've been looking since Obama's first term in office.

My watchmaker serviced my friend's example a few years ago and able to find all the parts necessary to make it fully operable. (If memory serves correct his also had calendar function issues.)

My friend paid for this capped version approximately what the seller on Chrono24 is asking. He may be asking a bit much, but if the watch were yours, would you part with it for less?

Thank you for your comment, an interesting opinion you offer here.
If it was you, would you buy it in that price? (I hope for an honest answer)
There’s a work to do on the watch besides the 1,500$ you’re going to pay

Would I buy at the seller's ask? If I had money to burn: yes.

Since I don't have money to burn: still yes, but would offer less.

It is a reference I find compelling, so my bias informs my decision. Others who are less enamored have offered sound advice; if residual value is important to you, you'd be better off passing.

Best,

Art

Thank you all for the input. I’ve contacted the seller and decided to buy the watch. I’ll post pictures when it will arrive, if anyone’s interested
