Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing...for answers. I'm guessing there's something wrong with this picture. At the risk of suffering a g'doy moment, what's wrong with this picture?
Screwback (wrong case)? I gather its an origami omega...

30 odd years in the construction industry makes you more than a bit cynical but it is either wrong or the world's first shock protected balance.

According to the Omega DB case ref 2165 is a press-in back, not screw. And the 11,xxx,xxx serial number puts it 1947 or later.

    Couple of things...

    1. When it comes to the Omega Vintage Database, don't believe everything you read. Or in the words of Pres. Ronald Reagan, "Trust, but verify".

There is another Ref. 2165 watch on the 'Bay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-WWI...1940-WATCH-2165-CS-1-/300963692631#vi-contentPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

From the pictures of both watches, even though there are notches on the case back, I can't tell if they are screw or snap backs. Could be either. But both are the same.

    2. The movement looks like a cal. 26,5 T3. These were made up to about 1952, several years after the introduction of shock protection on some Omega movements. This one was apparently one of them.

I'd gladly pay $80 (current price w/shipping) for it.

Although I doubt it will stay that cheap,

I fully agree with you, 26.5T3 had shock protection and it is one of them. The other 2165 on eBay has a 26.5T2, and is an older one (9million vs 11 million).
I also doubt it will stay at this price.
