I know nothing about the IWC brand.
My Uncle just gave this too me.

Just kidding, no Uncle.

But I have an opportunity to purchase this watch. It is 18K, from 1948 and the case is 36mm±.
Can anyone tell me anything about it. I know I don't have many good pics, but I didn't know that I was going to post a thread, just wanted a couple to look it up on the intranet.

I am not familiar with IWC at all, I have mostly Omegas, but for some reason this has caught my attention.
Any information would be helpful.

It's a caliber 89, most likely from the late 40's or early to mid 50's. I think it might be an older redial, but wait for more opinions.

I'm not 100% sure, but the font looks too large and too far to the right.

I think you might be right on both points.

Redial without a doubt. There are a lot shoddy examples of the cal 89 abound, but there are also good examples to be had for reasonable prices.

This is a cal. 89 as mentioned above.

The dial has plenty patina, that's for sure.
I cannot tell from your pictures if this is a redial.

These IWCs are collectible.

As I have read in IWC forums, the gold examples are the most sought-after.
However if this particular example is a redial, then I would not purchase it.

Undoubtedly a redial, and not a good one. There are much better examples of gold cal. 89 IWCs available, though they are not cheap.

Yes, as others have stated - definitely a redial. These watches are not exactly uncommon, so keep looking and you'll find a keeper!

Thanks for everyones help.
I will definitely keep looking. I would never be happy with this dial now that everyone has pointed out its, now obvious, flaws.

+1 here, those are my both observations as well ...

also, no SWISS/Swiss made also seems to be a red flag (not always true, but def. raises my eyebrows)

except for watches not made in "swisserland" ;-)

cheers, Al
