    Hey!

I found these two yesterday and might be buying one of them. I'm open to your honest opinions and pros and cons on each piece.

    Appreciate the help!

    What do you think?

the dials are too far gone for me as the patina isn’t attractive.

I agree, but if I just had to have one I’d go with the first. There’s a warmth to it that the second one seems to lack.

Dial damage is very much a personal choice, and also related to price/value. Overall spotting can sometimes be appealing, but I find my eye is drawn to big spots or scratches, and I would really try to avoid those. There is some lume loss in the minute hand in the first, and the lume is completely gone in the hands of the second one. This can be restored obviously.

Overall, I would expect both of these to have relatively low prices, otherwise I wouldn't consider them. Keep in mind, that they may need a full service, either now or in the near future, so you may be forced to invest yet another $200 or more into which ever one you buy.

Appreciate your reply! Actually the lume loss isn't a problem for me since I like the hands on the second watch. Do you happen to know how much would it cost to restore the lume to the hands and the hour markers? Just curious if I wanted to do that in the future.

The first one needs a proper service according to the seller so that is a quite big con for me. The second one has been serviced and is running smooth. Are the spots gonna be a problem on the dial tho or is it just a cosmetic flaw?

Also, is it a total no-go to keep the hands like that on the second watch? I kinda like the look as I said but I don't know if it's what people do.

The damage to the dials and the lume loss on the hands are mainly cosmetic issues. Lume can continue to fall out of the hands on the first one over time, and in principle it could get into the movement, so people will often "stabilize" the lume by applying lacquer to the back of the hands to prevent further deterioration. The lume has already been removed entirely from the hands of the second watch, so there is no issue there. You can leave them as "skeletons" if you like the look.

This is personal taste, but my main issue with the second watch is the big mark/scratch on the sub-dial.

Both pretty poor examples of not so sought after references.

OP, why are you interested in these two?

I'm buying my first vintage piece and these came up when searching. They fit my budget atm and the looks are quite ok to me. I don't mind if the refs are not popular for the big crowd since they are appealing to my eye. Signs of use are beautiful to me and I'm willing to take it to a normal service.

Came to ask advice here so I could be sure I'm not buying a fake and there's no any major issues that would require a bigger renovation :)

Also, I know this is not gonna be my last (vintage) Omega. Just something to begin with and something that wouldn't break a student's bank account haha!

The thing is with watches like these is that although you may be able to buy them for a relatively low price ( as long as you do your research first and don't get lulled into the sales patter of an experienced seller ) and for these two examples I'd say €250-350 each, once you've had them serviced you've probably doubled your initial outlay.

Here in is the problem, now you're in for possibly €450-550 but the watches still aren't so attractive, number one's dial is dirty and has some small spots/damage and number two's has damage by the sub dial. In the future they will be hard to move on for what you have in them serviced.

I don't know your budget or the asking prices of these two, that would help to advise you further?

Gotta keep that in mind thanks!

I honestly like the second one better because of the looks and the seller says they have been wearing it daily. It has also been serviced recently.

The seller is asking 560€ and I have offered 400€. What do you think about that?

I agree 400€ is high for the watches in this quality. Id keep looking. You can definitely get a better deal out there. These will be very hard to move in the future if you plan to sell.

If you love it though then go for it

Well to be honest I'm a bit confused, which of the two watches is this one supposed to be? is this before or after service- notice the crown is different to the dial on pictures

Thanks! I think I'll try to get it between 200-300€ and if that's not happening I'll search another one.

True thanks for spotting! I would have missed that.

It is the second watch and I gotta ask the seller about the crown. They said the crown has been replaced when serviced but didn't refer to the pics when telling that.

You should do some pricing research by searching the OF sales listings for other similar examples with 30mm movements (30T2, 265, 266, 267, 268 ...). Exclude "jumbo" references, since they are more valuable. For 560 Euros, they should be in better condition IMO.

Yeah I have learned more than I thought I would during this thread alone:D What price would you suggest for the second watch?
