Well the watch arrived. The bracelet fits my Seiko 5717 perfectly. I am very pleased. The Omega however, although not something I was intending to consider fixing up, is in a very sorry state.

I can confirm it is a 1962 14764. The watch was serviced once in its long life and sadly appears it was heavily neglected.

So, is this a write off or salvageable? When it arrived, I opened the package and it was ticking. That didnt last long and I have tried to keep it from running since.

Wow, my guess would be this is beyond salvation. Definetely the most damaged movement I have seen so far...

The bracelet does look nice on the Seiko though. 👍

Nice Seiko you have there!
As for the Omega, I'd give it a chance.

I know, the bracelet fits perfectly, Im so happy about how that all turned out. The omega looks like toast, but I just have a soft spot for restorations. I'd hate to just put this in a drawer and forget about it.

Does it have a chance? 😁
Any watch can have a chance- it just depends on how much money you want to throw at it.

Well say I paid essentially zero for the watch, how much would be too much to throw at it?

I personally wouldn’t invest in it- it’s a parts watch to me, and not many parts left to pull from. The movement needs half if not more of the rusty parts replaced, and the dial is shot. This would be a case of throwing good money after bad (or none in your case). You could throw it up on eBay with a starting bid of .99 and you will get something for it- then turn that money around into one in good shape....at least that’s what I would do.

Personally, I would not invest in restoring that Omega. The movement could probably be brought back to life at some cost, but the dial is so badly degraded that there is little upside. It would never be appealing to me.

+1 on not putting money into that movement. Not only will you likely end up putting quite a bit more into it than it'd ever be worth (unless it were sentimental, which is clearly not the case here), but, at least in my own experience, I'd be giving the watchmaker I go to a headache with this watch. Maybe this is just with the watchmakers I deal with, but I prefer to reserve headache watches for those that will be more interesting or fun at the end (a rusted-out 321, say, or a Tudor cal 390 with parts that've become unobtanium).

If you have money to burn and want to have a little fun- send it back to Omega and have them do a full restoration.
I think of that like eating a whole pack of Oreos before seeing the dentist- just to fυck with them.

Ok, just that comment alone makes this whole transaction worth it.

Yeah I will keep the watch, I wont sell it. I wont get it serviced at this stage.

Many of us have watches like this in our junk bin. Eventually we find a purpose for some of the parts- always handy to have

Yup, I think the best advice is to start a junk bin 😁 I will give it the Walt Disney treatment and preserve it for a future generation to restore.
