Remember the scene in Ratatouille when the villainous food critic finally tastes the ratatouille? He's instantly overwhelmed by a sensation so elemental that he's transported, as if by magic, back to his childhood. I think most of us have a particular recipe that serves that purpose. For me, it's the meatballs my mother used to make when I was a little kid.

I learned before my mother passed away how to replicate her recipe. It does the trick every time, including tonight.

What's your "ratatouille"?

Probably a Sunday roast beef dinner / lunch or Christmas day dinner for me. Last night was Spaghetti stir fry (due to an unforseen noodle shortage :0). Mostly homegrown vegetables and herbs. It actually worked rather well.

I have no idea about the menu for dinner, but I have an idea about lunch. My spouse and I met 58 years ago today, at a football game. We are going to honour the occasion by having a nice lunch at a favourite restaurant in a village 60 kms west of town. I’ll probably have the seafood fettuccini alfredo. They do an excellent watermelon salad which my spouse might try.

We celebrated our having met 58 years ago today, by going to an Italian restaurant in a small town almost in the Rockies. Our son was with us. The weather beautiful, the drive pleasant, and the food was excellent.
In order, watermelon salad, seafood fettuccini alfredo, carbonara with boar bacon, pancetta, Alfredo sauce, and tiramisu.

Good to have a special evening to celebrate a milestone like and the food looks amazing. Congratulations on your anniversary.

For this week's dinner menu, I drew the "seafood" card, and my wife bought some scallops and told me to turn them into last night's meal. I sprinkled them with sea salt and pepper, sauteed them in olive oil, then set them aside. I added more oil, then chopped green onions and grape tomatoes, lidding the pan to increase the heat till the tomatoes burst. I then deglazed the pan with vermouth, and added chopped parsley, a quarter cup of lemon juice, and a pinch or two of paprika.

How to serve it? Over fettuccine, with focaccia.

Not bad.

Looks a lot better than "Not bad" to me.
Maybe next time throw in some torn fresh basil at the end and toss it all together 😀

Had apricot glazed chicken the other night...apricot preserves, cider vinegar, jalapeno, ground cumin, salt, black pepper. It was simple and very tasty - sweet, spicy, and tangy all at once:

We were hungry last night after playing tennis, and saw this on a TV show, so did our best to replicate it...

Brioche bun with mayo mixed with hot sauce, then some fresh chives from our garden, and some loosely scrambled eggs:

Some cheese:

Then sautéed onions:

And then some bacon:

It was messy, but very good.

a piece of cow, paired with the right wine..

Nice table! Been quite a few years since visiting Italy, but we enjoyed looking in the ceramiche shops along the Amalfi coast. Hard to find the tables here in the US unless you are willing to pay nosebleed prices, and the selections are usually very limited. We will get one for our new patio at some point, though.
