IMG_3456.JPG I purchased this Hamilton 950 almost 10 years ago. I had taken pictures of the movement and all the parts before cleaning and reassembling. Looking back on it I was amazed that all the parts were stamped with the serial number, even the balance was etched. I thought that those of you that do not collect pocket watches would be interested. The date code runs somewhere around 1903 to 1915 or so. Still keeping great time. Checked four different date sights and got four different dates. hope you enjoy the pictures. omega 033.JPG 950 006.JPG omega 050.JPG

Among my favourite Hamiltons. Nice! To the best of my knowledge, all the American companies followed the practise of marking the serial number from the pillar plate on all the ancillary bridges, and balance wheel arms, at about this time. Your's has gold train wheels, and steel escape wheel. The hand written Hamilton serial number ledger pages are missing for this block of serial numbers.

Since when is a Hamilton entry level?

    Waltham maybe, but Hamilton??

That's like saying a BB512 is an entry level sports car

Or, to take it to a level you can understand... A Pitts Special is a nice "learners" craft...

    A younger brother.

Needs to be serviced, and maybe a new mainspring if they are still available.

image.jpeg Here's another goodie to keep your eyes peeled for. This is a 19-jewel version of the 950. This is a grade 952, which is relatively scarce when viewed among many of the 16-size Hamilton railroad grade models. There werevthree versions of the 952, all known by the same grade. The pictured one is the earliest of the three versions.

    image.jpeg

This watch was originally designed with a one-piece barrel bridge as shown on the 952. It was later modified to have a two-piece barrel bridge such as is shown on the subject 950. For reasons obscure to most watchmakers, Hamilton felt it made the watch easier to change the mainspring on. ::screwloose::
