"She'll make point five past lightspeed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself." https://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Millenn..._31_TEA_EMEA_MillenniumFalcon&RRID=6192166562
One of the largest lego sets ever, with over 7500 pieces, for about 800usd. So yes and no for overpriced. The Saturn Rocket was 1969 pieces and about $120.
If I recall the approx. 4000 piece Death Star was US$399.00 a few years back when I purchased it for my son (got backache helping build that over several days)...so I suppose a quick $/per brick analysis, this new Millennium Falcon is not exactly a value proposition on brick for buck. It should be noted that the Falcon does look like a much more complicated design. The spherical design of the Death Star has of course much more symmetry, although you do have different scenes within the Deathstar, the underlying structure is pretty simple compared to the Falcon. I also think the Falcon probably also has more custom pieces...BUT...I honestly think Lego Corp just priced the new Falcon like any "premium" product with a cult brand following...how much can we get away with and still sell lots of them
Verrry tempted by that one, it apparently is the biggest set ever. But what to do with the finished article?
My son and I saw a fully completed model in our local Lego store the other day ... It was in a display case, with a sign that prominently announced that it would be available for pre-order and purchase only to verified "Lego customer VIPs" (whatever that means) ...
It's their loyalty scheme. Anyone can join. Just ask for a VIP card in store. I think you can also sign up online.
