Does anyone actual wear the velcro strap that comes with the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch (latest reference)? I'm interested in trying this since it looks like it would be pretty comfortable. The original NATO strap is just not for me however.
I wear the Omega replica NASA strap quite often...in fact, it's my favorite and most comfortable strap.
Thanks. I can't take credit for the looping configuration...a gentleman by the name of "Rusty" (if I remember correctly) came up with the configuration and posted it on the internet. Here are some pics from about an hour ago based on what I learned from "Rusty"... LATE ENTRY: Pics lightened for clarity... RIDICULOUSLY LATE ENTRY: Pics reposted. Also, pic 2 below shows an optional strap shortening method [via a simple fold] for those individuals with smaller wrists to avoid strap overhang regarding the end result [see pic 8 below]... 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.
After trying to fit it for nearly 30 minutes, I discovered my wrists are way too small lol. Back on the bracelet it goes
Copy. Did you do the small shortening loop that's depicted in the second pic above? I have small wrists as well and the small shortening loop provides a way to avoid strap overhang once the strap is on the wrist.
Two thoughts: While the astronauts used Velcro on their Speedmasters while in space, they spent 99% of their time training here on Earth and wore their watches with either the flat-lug steel bracelet or a black leather strap. Tens of thousands of hours in labs, in simulators, in the classroom, they weren't wearing Velcro on their Speedmasters. So when I want to get into a "like a NASA astronaut" mood, I choose the vintage 1970's 1171 bracelet or the Omega matte leather rallye strap which has that tool-black vibe without being, you know, a piece of Velcro. The novelty of the Velcro strap lasts about a day.
There's also a white velcro available, and all these exist in long and short versions See: https://www.seb12100030.com/collections
Took a look at the manual for it last night. Looks like it's supposed to be wrapped around the wrist a few times.
Hi all, New to the forum, I looked for a way to put my NASA strap on my Moonwatch and I found this post... I recently try a new way to wear it, and I like the fact that the strap spin around my wrist... astronaut style Usually I wear the Omega black leather bracelet or the Omega black Nato... the NASA brings more fun and it's very comfortable.. By the way thanks to Mad Dog for showing his way, very instructive!
@ speedolex - That Omega matte leather rallye strap looks incredible. I have been wearing my stainless steel bracelet for 5 years and ready for a change. I looked online and couldn't find the Omega rally strap anywhere. Where did you find that??? @Mad Dog - awesome pictures, that NASA strap looks great on you! Thanks for taking the time to post those pics.
I'm still waiting for a Velcro strap for the co-axial 9300 models with their 21mm distance between the lugs. I kind of doubt Omega will do it. These new Speedmasters have evolved pretty far beyond the original Moonwatch.
I scour eBay and the web periodically, but so far no 21mm Velcro that looks anything like a Speedmaster strap. But I'll keep at it!
That's how Gemini VI pilot Thomas Stafford was wearing his Omega Speedmaster on a long velcro strap around his left wrist Thumbs up ! .
I can also recommend these velcro straps for your speedy. Quality-wise they are next to nothing, and especially the Apollo-era fabric is super comfortable to wear.
