Hello OF, I recently purchased a no name Omega. A 2792-1SC. My watch repair man asked if I wanted the hands cleaned up due to corrosion. When the hands came back they are cleaned off but now look as though they don’t match the hour markers. Should I purchase new (yes I probably will end up with super luminova) replate or keep as is. If I replate who does this in the states? Before- After- Thank you for the advice. Steve
More of a brushed look versus polished due to cleaning of corrosion. Unfortunately my iPhone may not pick up that detail. Or my problem is that I’m truly anal about this stuff
If it's really an issue, I bet with some good google-fu you'd be able to find original hands that are in better shape. Also, I bet with some even more google-fu you could find someone who can at least polish your current hands to more of a luster. But in all honesty, there are multiple people here who are vintage collectors that ARE anal about these details and they think it's fine. Totally understand being anal though, after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
OK, stirring the pot here, OP. Did you like the hands better before, or do you prefer them now? Assuming those were your two choices.
I like them better now. But I am detail person to a fault. And I know it’s a simple watch. But it’s for a simple man. Me.
I'm sincerely happy to hear that. They look fine to me either way. Old watches like this are rarely pristine.
Hello. Just 2 cents. I would ask the watchmaker to clean numerals too so that indexes and hands match in look. Mine in attached pic (not Omega but her cousin Tissot cal 28-5.1 bumper unfortunately over polished. Rgds
