WD40 for exterior cleaning?

I've been using WD40 to clean the exterior of my 3 year old steel-on-steel Speedy Moonwatch 311.30.42.30.01.005 with great results - a squirt on the watch exterior and bracelet have done a great job at cleaning my watch to a nice luster.

I use a simple microfiber cloth to wipe it down and the results are very nice.

Anyone have technical concerns with this affecting the watch long term?

Thanks!

Should be fine for the bracelet, but not a good idea on the case and its seals.

I do it with a microfiber cloth and (a breath of) glass cleaner.
WD40 is an oil and I do not like this on the shirt cuffs.

WD40 has no business anywhere near a wristwatch.

Should be ok as long as the WD40 stays in the can 😗

Attention @ChuckMK23 ...put yourself on report, candidate...no liberty for you this weekend...you will have EMI in the battalion consisting of buffing the decks...you will be assigned a cord maggot upon reporting for EMI. That is all. 😁

The stainless has never looked as good.

Dude...I know you’re excited...but stop being excited for a moment and confirm that the gear is actually down [and locked]...go back and read Archer’s post.

@ChuckMK23 ...and after you read [and hopefully understand] Archer’s post, you need to jump in one of your GE flying club’s aircraft and fly up to Canada so @Archer can kick your ass for pulling that circus stunt WD-40 trick. 😁

While you’re at it @ChuckMK23 ...you should stop by @blufinz52 and @Larry S ’s houses enroute to @Archer ’s house...I bet they’d like to kick your ass too. Shoot, I’m coming along...I need to take pics of your ass kickings...then I’ll post them on OF. 👍

A few. 😁

Fairly good chain degreaser, though. 😁

The newer line of WD40 cycling lubricants, degreasers etc. is exceptional. For bicycles. The original spray stuff? Awesome for cleaning or de-greasing metal parts, loosening rusted bolts etc. But on a watch? 😲

Indeed it is, however on occasions some of this advice can oversimplify an issue and could be misleading.
