Water damage - repair advice for 1973 Omega Speedmaster Mark 4.5 with severe corrosion and rust

1973 Omega Seamaster, was in perfect condition until I fell in a pool recently. Advised to send to Omega Switzerland, I expect that will cost as much as it's value.
I didn't realise the bottom right button was missing, hence the water damage. Any recommendations for repair or should I sell for parts.

Value for parts is going to be quite low, given that likely the movement has very few usable parts inside. Pretty much everything made of steel is going to be rusted. Most of the value is in the case and dial I suspect.

I think you can do better than falling into a pool, not having noticed that the pusher was missing. I mean, since you already have a completely implausible story, why not go all out?

For example, IMO, that is Amelia Earhart's watch that was recovered from the wreck of her plane, after she had time-traveled to the future and back to the past. 馃お

There's a first for everything Dan S, no idea why you find what happened implausible? Do you want pics of the pool I was cleaning at the time?

Not implausible at all - this very rusty Speedmaster had a similar thing - pusher had been ripped off, no one noticed, and he went in the water (salt water to boot).

Great photos. I suspect the inside of my watch will be similar although the pool is chlorinated and not salt water. The sentimental value is not enough to warrant great expense. No idea when and where the stopper became detached either. Thanks for the information Archer

Just curious: what would be your speculation as to why the OP would concoct this story?

Nope, not doubting the story. Just saying it's an implausible one.

Ouch! That hurts to look at. Did you manage to save that movement?

There is something about rusty watches ...

Such things do seem to be popular in a way. I guess as long as there are those of us who like to restore them. no one ever saves any money going after a basket case money pit. But it sure is fun. Even to see the ludicrous prices some of the more desired watches can seem to sell for even as parts.

Yes...

But it required a lot of these...
