Great looker. I’d lean to original dial but yes it’s a pointless debate. Enjoy it as is.

Ha pls don't mistake that for confidence.. it's more the idiot savant bravado with heavy emphasis on idiot. I've just seen so many ug dials. Not a legit one with the "UNIVERSAL" printed with such flair though. The red dot hour indices on the dial- seen it with silver or gold foil but never a painted red. Lot you can unpack with that dial but why incriminate it. I like it. Dials were often redone in this era. This one is classy and has character.

Thanks your probably right it must be a very old redial, I’m trying to source an original one but the ones I’ve seen look like they are NOS. Not confident on those either ?

It looks good. font fits in with period. Likely redial. It was acceptable and common to refinish dials up till early 60s. I would say the fab swiss is an add-on ...

Do you have any more photos of this and what calibre is it? I wouldn't have any compunction about re-dialling it as it already has a pretty ropey redial but it would be better to source a loose replacement dial and, with enough patience, I believe you'll find one (you might already have done so).

Given your subsequent post you really need to be certain that it's for the same calibre so the dial feet match. Equally there will not be a lot of wiggle room with the dial dimensions and ideally you need a digital caliper. (BTW I also think your left hand UG in the triplet photo is a redial because of the pointy A in Universal. I'm not sure about the right one).
