Thanks for all your answers to my query.. I’ve just phoned him up and it wasn’t him.. I just hadn’t noticed etchings before.. Could be the last guy that did work on my watch or guy before him.. We will never 🤬 know!
My straight lug got those as well, guess watchmaker from the last periods use marking all the time

whatever the purpose of marking the external case of the watch may be while in service, such etching by sharp metal is totally not acceptable. the watchmaker can use a pen marker if only to put an ID on body parts. luckily if the scratched marks is not that deep, it can still be cured thru polishing the affected area.

I have etched dumbass on the back of all my speedmaster’s lugs over the years changing straps as often as I do, but at least it was my doing it 😁😁
