Hi Guys, I'm pretty new to the forums, having lurked for a while and just purchased my first vintage Omega. I was wondering if anybody had a recommendation for an independent watchmaker in West Germany. Düsseldorf would be great, but Cologne, Essen, Dortmund, or anywhere in that general vicinity (even the border areas of Holland and Belgium) would be ok. Thanks very much for any help!
Hi there, German Uhrenforum has a thread dealing that question and is worth to snoop through: https://uhrforum.de/threads/liste-der-uhrmacher-fuer-aktuelle-vintage-uhren.67384/ and pretty much helpful is this map: http://uhrmacher-theodor-prenzel.de/Karte/ Around you in NRW there is a lot of vintage watchmaker to find, but personally I always would recommend Theo Prenzel himself (he is the initiatior of the forsaid list and one of the best I know here in Germany). Always worth to mailing him a watch, Hopefully it is allowed to post such links here
I can recommend Zeitpunkt in Duisburg. Great service, and they have a lot of experience in vintage Omega and Rolex and will respect the originality of the watch.
I would not recommend the list as it is not a list of recommended watchmakers with reputation but every watchmaker who thinks that s/he is able to do it can sign up. However, that does not mean that the watchmakers on the list are not good.
Hi Oku, I know and I am entirely with you at that point. So my recommendation was solely dedicated to the creator of the list and not to the list itself
Thank you for all of the help! Duisburg is certainly convenient, and I've recieved other recommendations as well. I'm in a lot better shape than I was before!
Hi, I think the basic problem is that independant watchmakers in Germany (and I guess in other countries too) are mostly not able to order original spare parts (e.g. from Omega, Sinn, etc.). So you should try to find a watch shop having some specialist "in the background" - here is some example located in Hessen: https://www.juwelier-oberleitner.de/startseite
