Does anyone have a watchmaker I can take my watch to ( Rather not ship it) in the DC/ Baltimore area that know their way around Omegas? My guy is great but he is semi-retired and getting harder and harder to get work done.
Just want to get the crystal replaced in my Speedmaster- it was serviced about 4 years ago and has low mileage since then so I’m good on that for now.

Zaf Basha does good work out of DC and is also a leading authority on JLC collecting

I live near DC, I go to Zaf for everything.

BTW shoot me a DM, always fun to meet more local collectors around here 😀.

Getting a crystal replaced is relatively easy work. I wouldn’t drive too far if that’s all you need to get done. Have you tried polywatch? I thought I needed a new crystal and then 10 minutes and some polywatch later I changed my mind.

The crystal is an aftermarket that came on the watch and has been polished a few dozen times so I figure it's probably wearing thin at this point. I have a buddy with a crystal press who has done most of my crystal replacements but read that the Speedy's require movement removal and loading the crystal from behind which makes him a little aprehensive. He's fine tearing apart my Tissot's and Bulova's, but my Speedy scares him a bit.

The crystal presses in from the front, so technically you don’t have to remove the movement to install the crystal, although it’s standard practice to do so. You do typically have to remove the movement to push the old crystal out though, unless it’s a very loose fit...

Can it be removed with a crystal lift?

Has anyone ever been to Secrète Jewelry in DC? I stopped by there to try on some Junghans watches last week and was told they have an Omega certified watchmaker on staff.

Timepiece Repair is great. Aaron does excellent work!

Thanks for the recommendation! I just spoke with Aaron and got a really good impression from our short conversation. I am going to try to get some watches to him later this month for a service.

Rather than start a new thread, thought I’d revive this one.

Any updated/new recs for a local watchmaker who can service a modern coaxial Omega?

Will probably send to Omega, but am wondering about faster options. This is for a “beater” Seamaster 300 diver, c.2016. It’s got almost no power reserve anymore—or maybe the rotor isn’t properly winding the mainspring anymore. Either way, time for an overhaul.

Have you tried MD Watch Works in Hagerstown? I believe they have an omega parts account for modern Omegas.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm not sure at the moment or for a modern omega, but wait time for a 3-hander was like 2-4 weeks last time I had servicing done a few months ago.
