Hi all,

I'm a little out of my element, and would love some advice on some parts I recently got.

I made a deal with a friend to buy a lot of misc parts he bought from a watchmaker's estate. Although the dials in the photos didn't seem special, I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived and have been trying to find out more.

In particular, is this cool Chocolate dial:

Apologies if the photo is bad...I recently upgraded to a iPhone 14 pro, and it really messes with the rendition. It looks nicer in person.

The dial seems to have some light surface wear and lume, but the lume doesn't glow. I suspect it has been relumed at some point. Am I correct in identifying this as an A4 dial for a 2998-1 / 2998-2? I recently got a copy of MWO and this is the first time I'm sifting through the different dials. Any red flags?

Upon closer inspection, the back is signed Singer and it unfortunately seems to have had the dial feet cut off. I'm not sure why anyone would do this, but I assume it can be carefully repaired. Any thoughts on how the dial feet and relume will effect value?

I appreciate the help!

Yep, that's a 2998-1 or -2 dial. I like it, it's rare.

As @Dan S, the lume seems to have been stripped out.
I have seen it many times on old dials. I guess that removing the hazardous radium fro ma dial (to make it non-radioactive) was a common custom back in the past.
Otherwise, your dial seems to be in pretty good shape with a nice brownish tint.

Congrats !

I'm not sure there's any lume on that dial.

Thank you, Dan. After looking closer I think you must be right.

Make sure you turn on RAW in the top right of the screen when you take the pic. I think by default it is off. When it is off it does all types of sharpening and post processing that is not always for the best.

The dial feet can be added by a competent watch maker by the use of a bonding epoxy agent and some feet sized to fit the movement along with height adjustment.
