Sorry I been negligent in my contributions to this thread. I'll try much harder and hopefully y'all will pile on and continue to post your finds as well.

Well our gaggle of bikini-clad watch hunters in the tropical Philippine islands have been busy this past week. Along with about 30 other vintage watches in our latest package received they managed to snag a couple of all original sun scorched Omegas. Both running great but gonna have our guy clean and lube 'em so they are safe to wear. Both appear to be '50's but I'm not gonna try to pry open the backsides to peek inside as I only open screw backs with my limited ability. These are examples of true tropical dialed watches 馃憤

Hope you enjoy 馃榾

The Seamaster looks great, and the dial鈥檚 uniform honey colour will be a great match for a nice brown strap 馃憤

Nice clean up job on that Doxa. You reminded me that I have an old Doxa somewhere in our stash that also deserves some love. I'll try to dig it up later and do the same 馃憤

Another interesting piece in our latest catch from the tropical Islands is this nice clean older Seiko orange diver. Usually these are sort of time-worn when gotten from dive areas but this one sat out most of its life in a dive shop cabinet as unsold merchandize.

What鈥檚 the size of that beauty? The new ones are 42.5mm which I find too big.

I don't know offhand but it's not so big, same size as the typical 7S26 divers.

Finally dug out the Doxa I mentioned. It's a bumper auto and decent size, maybe around 35mm. Runs like a champ and the specks on the dial appear to be old lume dust. The dial is actually quite good with intact minute tracks but the crystal is discolored on the edges from decades in the tropics so one of these days I gotta get it changed and have the specks dusted off the dial. Kina a cool military vibe to the thing and it's certainly a survivor!

Looks like a SKX011 with a SKX007 bezel insert as they originally came with gold accent numerals ,size wise it鈥檚 42.5 Mmm w/o crown . I have one & highly recommend them

You might be right about the insert, but I've seen these turn silverish with the bright island sun. Our dial and inner chapter ring has slight sun bleaching which makes it turn pinkish as well. The watch sat unsold in a display cabinet at a seaside dive shop for years before our crew of watch-scavengers glommed it for us. 馃榿

I think that's a good possibility , and I changed over my 011 insert to a 007 one for quite a while & easily reversed 馃憤

Latest group of watches from the tropical islands last week included this colorful Aquadive. I think it's from the late 60's or early 70's? This one wasn't spending a life of leisure as unsold merchandize in a dive shop. It was on the wrist of an America expat who remembers he bought it new in the US naval base PX in Subic back in the day, but couldn't remember what year that day might have been. I wonder if the constant flow of San Miguel beer might have fuzzed his memory? Anyways our crew of conniving watch hunting relatives managed to convince him to sell. I'm amazed how damage-free the bezel is. Aside from cleaning off the grunge, I'm gonna take off that horrible stretchy band and find me a nice mesh bracelet for it.

These have gotten a bit of a cult following in the last few years- nice find!

Cleaned off all the jungle grunge and rounded up a mesh band so it's now wearable. I think all that's left to do is polish the little white dings and scratches from the acrylic at the 12:00-2:00 position and she will be fairly presentable.

Cleaned up very nicely!

$5 thrift shop find ... a new battery didn't seem to get it going but I don't know much about quartz watch repair yet. Thought the box and AT&T engraving were cool.

Just picked up this forlorn lookin Citizen diver for $5 at a yard sale yesterday here in St. Petersburg Florida. Had my fingers crossed a new battery would get her going and it didn't at first, so while blinking back the tears, I seen one of the contacts on the side of the battery pocket was bent, straightened it out so it would contact the battery and she started ticking away. Life is worth living again!
Take a look at that grunge between the lugs and preventing the bezel from rotating...

A good soaking in laundry detergent made short work of the nastiness and the bezel freed up just fine. Now for a bracelet. I rummaged through our piles of junk and spotted a 20mm oyster off of God-knows-what and with a light trimming with a file the head links don't fit too badly 馃榿

My dad got something similar for his retirement from the county. At least he got a watch.

Quartz watch repair seems to be an interesting subject. Most of the time it is simply a battery. I see that their are oils specifically formulated. I took a watch in hoping that it would be rebuilt. Not worth the time. All they did was dust it, then oil the visible pivots. Dust and wear are probably the main issues. Once the dust gasket is compromised, too much junk gets inside. (edit: really need a clean room to work on these.)
Must be some who do waste their time. I am amazed how much horrible looking damaged Tag/Heuer movements are being offered for online. It really is all about the name on the dial and the shape of the case.
