That is funny, love the small safe idea....wouldn't they assume if you went to that length to disguise something they should come back?

Safe deposit boxes are a bit of a pain to be honest, I don't like the idea of keeping just a couple of pieces with me whilst the others are away. I believe the most dangerous thing is when people know that you have valuable stuff and will know what to look for, so no matter where you stash your collection, you are in a bad place :/

Ok, if I am being a pain telling you about my career as a police officer, let me know. Although it happpens, burglars don't generally come back to get something they missed. If they do it's because they somehow are familiar with the victim and have a good idea of what they can still get and where it is.

Best defense against burglars and crimes are nosey neighbors. Burglars don't want to be seen or identified.

In addition to theft, my valuables insurance policy covers my watches (and other valuables, such as my wife's diamond ring) for loss and damage. So, if she looks down at her ring one day and the stone is missing, we are covered. If I drop my watch and break it, or lose it somehow, we are covered. It's not just theft.

The problem with insurance is that you can't hide the cost of your watches from your wife. I have discussed every purchase with my wife before making it, but my collection has grown over the years and last month we got the insurance bill, we also had a a new discussion. An itemized list of the value of each watch is hard to argue with, be careful.

Re: a broken watch, and insurance coverage. What is the deductible? I quit insuring my wife's jewellery, her 12 dinner place settings of sterling silver flatware, my jewellery, and my collection of wrist and pocket watches, when the premiums far exceeded the total premiums for the rest of our insurance! That was 30 years ago. Have never had occasion to have made a claim, had we had insurance.

A lot of schools of thought here. No deductible, but the policy can be constructed many ways. $500 a year, and that insures about $70K of jewelry and watches against theft, loss, damage. Worth it to me.

Always good to have an appraisal and the items on a separate schedule so the insurance company can't try to weasel out on the value if you have to make a claim
can you elaborate on this?
