Hi, new to the forum. I have this vintage Omega that was my late fathers and would like to know a little about it. Was purchased by my mother as a Christmas gift after my parents arrived in Canada after WWII. Not sure how soon after but I would guess this would be late 40's, early 50's in Toronto, Canada before I was born. This was my father's dress watch worn only on special occasions and kept hidden away in a bedside nightstand.

Curious as to model, year and value for insurance purposes only as I won't be selling this family treasure. I have tried researching online on my own but have not come across a pic of a similar model. It seems that rounded dials were more popular than rectangular ones. The inside of the case back says gold filled. The case itself is approx. 25 cm in length with a lug spacing of 15 cm. I have the original velvet covered box it came in as well.

It keeps excellent time and is hand wound. A friend who collects watches told me this is not the original strap and it would have been leather. I was born in '61 and this gold expandable strap was what I always remember being on it growing up. Should I have it cleaned and serviced or just leave it be since there appears to be no issues? Thanks in advance for any help that the more knowledgeable members here can share with me. 20180517_120421small.jpg 20180517_120439small.jpg 20180517_120448small.jpg 20180517_120520small.jpg 20180517_120530small.jpg 20180517_120539small.jpg 20180517_122513small.jpg 20180517_122557small.jpg

Unfortunately the pictures are too blurred to make out any numbers. If it's an Omega case it should have a reference number on the inside of the case back. The movement will have a long serial number which should give approximate age and a calibre number.
You should certainly get the movement cleaned and lubricated. Use a watchmaker who you know can be trusted with this sort of watch. If you don't know one then let the forum for advise on someone in your area.
As to value, I don't think there is a big demand for small, square, hand wound watches so it wont be very high but if it's an heirloom you wont want to sell it.

Based on your fuzzy pics I offer the following.

It looks to be an Omega movement (Caliber 302?) with an 11 mil serial number which dates it to about 1947/1950 or maybe a bit later.

The 10 karat gold filled case was made by the Apex Watch Case company of New York. This was normal for imported watches from this period where an agent imported the movements from Omega and had local case makers produce their cases.

The watch has no model name like Seamaster or Constellation, it is simply an Omega. Value is rather low I suspect but that's not relevant if you are keeping it.

It's important that you get the watch serviced as dried up oil and dust can wear out bearings and axles on the gears. While it's being serviced, you should remove the flex band as the spring lugs can gouge the inside of the lugs.

I think it would look nice on a leather strap.

Thank you for the info. I am adding some clearer pics. The inside of the case has a serial # 839994 Apex 10K Gold Filled. Also engraved with RS 11/74 to the side and another above Apex that is too hard to read ending in either 57 or 67. The movement says 17 jewels with serial # 11301580 As to value not being high...are we talking less than $100, $500???

The serial number dates production to between 1947-1950, could have been sold as much as ayear or two later. As for value for insurance purposes, I'd guess under $1k, but over $100, probably around $200-$500 based on eBay listings
