Watch decides to wake up

This watch had been stuck in a safe for decades (combination forgotten) and in a drawer the past few years. Tried hard shaking it, but it was dead. My wife picked it up this morning to move it, and to my surprise it was alive. Is this common experience?

It may run for a little while, maybe a few minutes due to residual power in the mainspring, but it's not magic.
