路路Omega Qualified WatchmakerPeople don't use actual sand anymore. Silica dust = cancer. I used to use filtered "play sand" from Home Depot to clean car parts in my backyard. Very aggressive, though. Dual purpose as it also provided top dressing for my yard. 馃榾
Many other blasting media out there. Walnut, for example. Just google "blasting media".
Yes, lots of different media available. Even dry ice pellets are used for cleaning things using a blaster.
The trick with thin metal is making sure the pressure is right - too much and it will cause the metal to curl (ask me how I know!).

Yes, that's a small machine. I'm used to it for cleaning off large machine tools - much quicker than trying to wash off dirt and grease. It's also used pretty extensively for restorations after a fire:

路路Omega Qualified WatchmakerDo not show this to my wife! She loves our gas powered power washer as it scratches her OCD itch (she does our mossy brick patio every year- I am the assistant). This would rock her world.
I have lots of experience with doing that - our driveway is patterned concrete, and we seal it every few years. Before that is done we power wash it to remove dirt, old sealer, etc., and the first time I did that it was 12 hours of power washing (driveway, parking alcove, and walkways are over 3,000 square feet with lots of little crevices for dirt to hide in) and after holding the trigger in that long over a single day, I could barely hold anything in that hand for the next week. Now we hire someone to do the power washing part, and we do the sealing...
