Waste of time, or a brilliant affirmation of resourcefulness, talent, and ingenuity?

For whatever reason, I found this to be incredibly uplifting. I guess it’s because at the start, it looks like something that’s completely beyond hope, that no one would care about, and anyone bothering with it would be a fool.

Yet, completely defying expectation, out of that mess comes something of esteem, function, and admiration. A great metaphor, I think, about what we humans can do if we really dedicate our energy and passion towards fixing problems we believe to be irreparable.

I’ve watched many of these, its one of the many YouTube rabbit holes I enjoy, hard candy making has also been on that list.

Have you seen this one? It combines the two! Also, this guy's production is great, no pesky soundtrack.

Watched the video this morning. Given the state of which the truck was at in the beginning of the video I thought a restoration was not even possible. I wonder what kind of tool he was using in the middle that was getting the majority of the rust off.

Both of the restoration videos made me smile. Some things are worth doing, even though the nominal effort is way out of proportion to the end result... one does it from a sense of fulfilment and joy!

Looked like he was using a media blaster- high pressure aggregate (like sand) in an enclosed box with a window on it and two hand holes with gloves.

People don't use actual sand anymore. Silica dust = cancer. I used to use filtered "play sand" from Home Depot to clean car parts in my backyard. Very aggressive, though. Dual purpose as it also provided top dressing for my yard. 😀

Many other blasting media out there. Walnut, for example. Just google "blasting media".

Yeah, I’m dated in my knowledge of these devices. I know the walnut shells is the new thing they use to clean carbonizing in the combustion chambers of cars.
