I will be travelling to Washington DC mid April for a few days and then moving on to Annapolis for a week. I always like to visit local used or vintage watch shops so if anyone has any little local gems they are willing to pass on I would be greatful. Checking the internet there seems to be a vintage Seiko shop in Washington DC but very little else. Your tips would be appreciated. Many thanks.
Welcome to the DC area. Other than a few places in the suburbs, I really can’t think of too many places even though I’ve been here since the early 1990s. Found this googling, https://www.buddyhclockandwatch.com/, which I may have to visit next time I visit my godson in the Naval Academy. What’s the vintage Seiko shop out of curiosity?
Off topic, we enjoyed this restaurant with my godson, http://www.reynoldstavern.org/, and Chick and Ruth’s deli is silly fun.
Haven’t found any vintage watch places nearby, but I would recommend The Boatyard in Annapolis for a good crab cake and seafood.
If you're gonna be in the area for an entire week, why not try for a GTG? Oh, and if you don't mind the drive for the best crab cakes anywhere near the Chesapeake, check out Faideley's. It's not a great neighborhood so go during daylight hours to be safe.
Thanks for the dining recommendations. Looking forward to exploring this area as my last trip to this region was to Northern Neck overlooking the Potomac river. The Seiko shop in DC is www.dcvintagewatches.com. Looks interesting but just not for me.
Can I just ask, what is a GTG. Looked it up and the meaning is Got To Go but this goes way over my head????.
In this context, it means a Get ToGether, as in a friendly meetup (usually) over watches, food and drink.
Sounds interesting. My wife is at a conference in DC and I am joining her April 28th leaving Wednesday 2nd May for Annapolis. I am an avid vintage speedmaster collector and have in my collection a Mark ii, Mark iii, a speedmaster 125, a 176.007 plus a few others.
As for great crab cakes, I myself live by the sea on the east coast of Ireland and we have great crab toes ( claws ) here in our little fishing village. Looking forward to great food in Annapolis.
I'm also in DC, would love a get together . I don't know of any neat watch stores but Zaf Basha over at classicwatch.com is awesome. He doesn't have a specific store, but maybe you can touch base with him. Re: food, in addition to crab cakes, etc. in Annapolis/near Baltimore, if you want food recommendations in DC tell us your food interests and I'll help out. DC's food scene is amazing!
Thank you. Food interest wide and varied. Travelled widely and have not found anything yet that was inedible. Done India and China and enjoyed everything. Looking forward to meeting up.
A GTG would be great, but sadly April 28th/ 29th are a no-go for me. Monday the 30th is a possibility.
Monday lunchtime would be great for me. Evenings booked up as I have to be the other half at dinners organised by the conference organisers. I can travel as no plans for that day. Wife at work and freedom beckons.
I hope maybe this gtg will actually happen. I would like to attend. The last couple sort of fizzled out.
Yeah, that's because on the internet, EVERYONE says "Sure! I'll come!" until the day the GTG is supposed to happen and most don't bother. Internet ≠ real world. Oh, and if this does happen on a Monday, I'll come! ( )
Count me in on Monday as well, until Monday comes then I wont be able to make it ..... Seriously I am in the Annapolis area and would be down for a GTG. Also OP I recommend Iron Rooster for Breakfast/Brunch in Annapolis.
