Have any of the UG collectors here come across this book?

I'm trying to track down a copy, or at least find out if it's worth the effort.

Universal Geneve 100 ans de tradition horlogere

Hardcover – Unabridged, January 1, 1994 by Fred Sanschti & Laura Rivolta

Is there an ISBN number inside the front cover? If there is, Google it and see what happens.

I remember seeing a copy in a little second hand shop in Long Beach about 5 years ago, didn't get it because they wanted 85 bucks for it. Went back a week later and it was gone - didn't think much of it since i was barely aware of UG at the time, but wish I'd grabbed it now.

I have a copy in front of me here but I'm afraid there is no ISBN.

It is definitely an interesting read but is not a reference guide like the Sala book.

It includes some information on the history of UG, a section on movements, a section on new watches released by UG to mark the centenary and then a significant proportion of the book is effectively a catalogue for an Antiquorum UG sale that took place in April 1994.

That catalogue and the results are still available here

... weirdly, I've become somewhat obsessed with out of print watch books. It's cheaper than watches :)

If I decide to have a crack at a UG book, I'll definitely come looking for help from this group.

Do you think there's an appetite for one? The only one I've been really impressed with is Sala's.

What we need is a three hander book and some collated notes to fill the holes in Sala IMO.

Sala, as great as it is, has issues. There is a ton of narrative here on OF that needs collating into digital foot notes.

I have a copy. Definitely a reference and a worthwhile investment if you are serious about UG. It is a great read. Lots of history and images. However, there are many redials, so better to not use it as the ultimate guide ...

It looks like this one just hit the market in August....

    Universal Geneve - Ten
Steel Compax, Tri Compax and Uni Compax From The 1960s
    by Crosthwaite / Gavin

    http://www.universalgenevecompax.com

I might have to save up for this one, it's a little spendy.

My view on the book is that it is far from complete. It completely misses the early genesis of the 60s compax range which begun much earlier than 1965, but 1961 ! The compax and tri-compax models started off with the 227XX references, the caliber 281 and the caliber 130 which was very different from the Caliber 85. It is a Valjoux 72 but a much higher quality build, similar to the Rolex Daytona V72, which is does not mention at all. Another thing to note, is that not all caliber 281s had the brequet hairspring. That is only seen in the early 281.

I must sound like a right anorak ...
