Brown dial valuation is a dark art. Many think they hold a valuable dial, because it is not black. There are so many hues of brown as seen in a speedmaster dial. This is just one example of two different dials. To me, one is double the other. Note they both have full lume. Now there may be other esteemed members who say that brown is a defect and not to be valued.
Here is another brown, compared to a black, in a diamond (daylight lamp) light The right hand watch is a service dialed 145.012
Big fan of tropical dials the lighter brown the better. Maybe u can post pics of the watch outdoors so we can see how "tropical" it is
Things aren't adding up on this one. Red hand was a possibility on 1967. Brown dial 861 is a known defect in 29.1 and 29.6 serial area, BUT those would most likely Not have a straight text caseback. And the second hand should have patinated to a darker color lume for a 1969 Hour and minute definitely not original. Find out the serial numer
There were only 2 types of reddish like hands with the flat base and narrow tip. The only other red hand I know was the cal 321 racing ones but that was more of a regular speedy pro flat bottom hand. This is an ultraman for comparison
Yes.....Hello: I added the hand. The watch arrived to me with a broken hand and I haven't yet found a matching chrono. So I had this lying around and stuck it on. Which is how I believe most orange / red hands find their way onto a pre/moon watch.
The original hand is a little more reddish hue to it than the racing orange hand. Just a slight difference
True... Now you have me thinking..... So if the hand is really red, not orange, and the correct shape.....it could be original?
Here's a supposedly(?) original one from Mike Wood in the UK: Reference website: http://www.theoldwatchshop.com/omegapics/Dscn13772.jpg Here at least you have a more consistent patina on the other hands. Since this one has much newer looking hands, you would think it would be less likely....
No Spacefruit, you got the nicest one I have seen in a long while on that Frankenspeedy you won on ebay. You arent looking anymore!
He just sent me some new pics. I think I know of a way to restore the lume on the markers without reluming. Don't ask me I will never tell but, if I buy the watch I will show a before and after...
