As Nacho pointed out a few weeks ago, 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of NASA’s qualification of the Speedmaster for use in space. As you’ve probably noticed, there’s no new Omega Speedmaster Professional to commemorate this qualification by NASA. Instead, the folks at Omega chose to discuss the Speedmaster’s qualification on the brand’s social media […]

Another interesting #Speedytuesday article.
One remark, NASA history points out that testing the chronographs was completed by the end of February 1965 as John Young started training with an Omega Speedmaster on February 26, 1965. During March 1 & 2, NASA office of Manned Space Flight held a manned spaceflight design certification review for all flight hardware in Washington D.C. and the Omega Speedmaster was aceepted as GFE Government Furnished Equipment.
The date mentioned in the article, March 23, 1965 was the Gemini III spaceflight mission during which Virgil Grissom and John Young both wore an Omega Speedmaster 105.003-63 chronograph and a battery-powered tuning fork movement Accutron Astronaut GMT pilot watch.
Remember Omega only delivered the very first batch of Omega Speedmaster chronographs on April 23, 1965 so the watches worn during Gemini III must have been from the trio delivered to be tested by the end of October 1964.

Indeed, it looks like all commemorative "Speedmaster stuff" has been completely transferred to moonSwatch... just now in the year we'll celebrate half-a-century "ASTP Apollo-Soyuz Test Project" a mission during which 11 Speedmaster chronographs were worn.
March 1, 2025 Bienne : A daring display with a wink to the Longines-Wittnauer and Rolex 6238 that didn't pass the test

I didn’t get one tbh.
I didn't either. It's easier to get an Omega than a Swatch in the USA.
edit, I already have the big four current real moonwatches anyway, so who needs a Swatch? Though I do have Mission to the Moon and a fake white Snoopy moonphase...

I saw the three piece Swatch set in almost every Swatch shop I passed in Switzerland two weeks ago, shown as CHF 250 but each box had a 'For display only' sign on it so I don't know if they are available or just in short supply.

Only the 1965 MoonSwatch is for sale at CHF 250. The Longines and Rolex Swatch watches are not for sale (so I was told in the drive thru Swatch store in Biel)

A friend of mine went to the OB in Bellevue this past weekend and they told him the current X-33 was being discontinued.

Maybe there is a next gen model in the works using that big crisp display that the Seamaster Regatta has after all.
