·Time to bite the bullet and accept that if I want to sell this watch, I will have to get over what I have in it, including the service ( $700 ) and accept what the market price actually is.
Here is a fun and unique timepiece that screams late 60's - early 70's and space race from a respected Swiss watchmaker with a long history.
Picked this up last year with the intention of keeping it in the rotation indefinitely so I sent if off for a new crystal and a service to Andy Lewis of Ultra-Vintage Watches in Russellville, Ohio ( $388.00 - new crystal, complete mechanical, caseback gasket, new Zodiac crown )
Looks great and running like a champ and regrettably is being sacrificed as a down payment towards that next "can't live without it timepiece".
These watches were noted for their futuristic features. With stacked transparent disks moved by outer gear trains and printed with rectangles and circles on them to resemble hands, the indicators produce an ethereal “floating” appearance on the dial— thus earning the “mystery dial” designation. The Astrographic wasn’t the first watch to host this feature, but it likely is the most sporty model to have done so. The “mystery” dial is more frequently seen in dressier watches, many produced by Cartier, like the Rotonde de Cartier Skeleton Mysterious Double Tourbillon Watch.
Perhaps the coolest feature is the RED DOT second hand that orbits around the central Zodiac like Mars orbiting the sun.
Case Size: 40 x 44
Material: Steel / Gold
Movement: Zodiac 72B / 21600 bph
Price: $400 plus actual shipping cost ( PayPal F&F )
