Hi OF members,

Offering this beautiful Zenith Sporto from the late 40's/early 50's, with a military style radium dial and sub second register. It appears to be in fully original condition, with the dial taking on a lovely patina.

I purchased this watch in August 2023, from a Swiss lady selling antiques in a small town in the south of France. She told me she came from a family of watchmakers and that the watch was serviced before being sold. Of course, that cannot be ascertained, but the watch has been ticking along extremely well and keeps excellent time.

The stainless steel case measures 34mm excluding the crown and 18 mm between the lugs. It looks unpolished to my eye and is in very pleasant condition, with thick lugs showing some light surface marks, as seen in the macro photos below. The case back bears a lovely engraving that reads: "Tir Cantonal Vaudois Moudon 1950", which refers to a Swiss shooting club, in the canton of Vaud. I have not tried to open the case, but my research brought me to a similar watch with the exact same engraving, showing the movement inside, which appears to be a Cal 126-6 (experts might chime in otherwise).
The non signed crown and lumed dauphine hands also appear to be correct for this reference.

The cream-colored dial has developed a striking patina, with the luminescent hour numerals taking on a golden/green hue, which burst with color under direct sunlight. The hands have also retained their full lume, matching the dial perfectly, with no corrosion to speak of.

It comes on grey buffalo grain heavily textured strap, that came new with the watch when I bought it.
