I recently acquired this piece will zero history whatsoever. It is quite striking and I am in the process of authentication and paperwork from VC. We have exchanged a few emails and they have the movement and caseback numbers to assist. I was referred to this group from a member who knows vintage way more than I do. It is a beautiful piece and I am interested in looking into trade or sell options most likely. When I get a chance I will post some better pics, but hopefully what I have right now will suffice. Some friendly advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
Hopefully one of the more veteran members can chime in but it looks like a redial to me due to the difference in wear/aging between the seconds track and lettering.
I was hoping someone would have said something by now. I'm no pro. But to me it looks like a redial. A very sloppy one at that. The spacing of the words looks awkward and not parallel with Geneve. And the sub dial second track looks inconsistent.
I've posted on the hour lounge and no mention of a redial. I'll examine under a loupe closer and see if that could be the case. Hopefully VC will have more info. Also, I should take a few better pics. That may help as well. Thanks all for the input.
Hi, buddy! @timechef I will call up a gentleman from Jersey (oxymoron? ) who I think knows a bit about these, and if he does not, I'm sure he could find someone who does. Calling @ulackfocus !!!
Hi TC. While the font of VACHERON & CONSTANTIN looks correct (particularly the ampersand which is usually wrong on redials), I have two concerns: 1) There doesn't appear to be an accent over the E in GENÈVE - the mark seems to be a continuation of a streak on the crystal. 2) The ribs of the concentric circles in the subdial are not crisp at all. Both the above points are usually telltale signs of a refinished dial.
Maybe if you send excellent quality macros. I've never dealt with them - only AP and JLC. Both those companies have confirmed dials for me so possibly VC can too.
@ulackfocus - I've never seen that style of ampersand before ... not calling you out on it at all, but looking to expand my own knowledge ... when does that date from?
Vacheron let me know it's 1946 and ref.4066. I'm still trying to sell if you know anyone that's interested. Stainless steel and 33.5 mm.
Yeah, this isn't really how it's done around here. We have a sales section with rules posted above, please check it out.
