Up for sale is this great looking circa late 1960s/early 70s Longines Admiral in screwed stainless steel case featuring a beautiful Near Mint metallic blue dial with date complication in overall Excellent vintage condition. This classic and versatile 35mm model features a rare in house Longines cal. 431 25-jewel chronometer-grade movement adjusted to temperature and 4 positions that beats at 36,000 bph, which gives the second hand a pleasingly smooth sweep. This deluxe version of the 431 was arguably Longines' most technically advanced movement, an engineering pinnacle of sorts before the quartz revolution nearly destroyed the mechanical watch industry. It has just been fully overhauled by my NYC Master Watchmaker and so is operating perfectly and is guaranteed for 6-months of normal non-abusive use.
The asking price for this great Longines Admiral is now REDUCED to $775 USD OBRO exclusively for Omega Forums members, including fully insured worldwide FedEx shipping. Straight up Paypal is OK on this watch, as is Bank Wire. Other payment options upon application. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.
CASE & BACK: Classic men's size 35mm wide (not including crown) x 41mm long water resistant steel case that wears quite large because of the large face has perhaps been lightly detailed in the past but not overly polished and the lugs are quite thick and crisp. Top of the lugs appear to show their factory satin finish and there are a minimum of scratches and only one small nick to the lower left lug. In the pictures the bezel has some Polywatch residue on it but it is actually quite bright and clean. Conservatively and by my strict standards, I rate the case as in easily Excellent+ vintage condition. Outer caseback has its original factory machining and crisp Longines numbers with just a few marks, Excellent condition. The inner caseback is corrosion free and is stamped with all correct Longines nomenclature for the time. The nice thing about this case, IMO, is that most of these 431s are usually in very funky, very 70s "Ultra Chron" designs, often in a monocoque, while this is more of a classic screwed case that if anything is vaguely reminiscent of an IWC Yacht Club but probably even less stylized than that. Stealthy and timeless!
DIAL & HANDS: Beautiful Near Mint original factory printed metallic blue Sunburst dial with applied Longines "Wings" logo, white accented bar markers and only the slightest signs of aging. It's very hard to find a blue Longines dial from this period and the condition of this one is simply beautiful. Stick hands with white fill and white sweep seconds are Mint.
CROWN: Correct Longines push in crown winds (albeit not so easily as it is on the small side) and pulls out to the time setting position, as it should.
CRYSTAL: Low dome acrylic crystal with silver tension ring has a few noticeable residual scratches after a light polish but no cracks or crazing, Very Good to Excellent.
MOVEMENT: The secret weapon under the hood of this watch is the Longines 25-jewel automatic cal. 431 high beat movement adjusted to temperature and 4 positions with ball bearing rotor. Arguably one of the most technologically advanced mass-produced movements of the era, this deluxe version of 431 features an excenter regulator, Kif Ultraflex shock protection and a Rolex-like instantaneous date change at midnight. The date is semi-quickset, so one moves the hands between about 20 and 24 hours to rapidly advance the date. As stated above, this high-grade movement has just been fully overhauled and so is running great in every aspect and I guarantee it for normal, non-abusive use for 6 months.
BAND: This classic Longines comes on an 18mm black leather Hadley Roma strap with croc pattern. It is just past the break in phase with some wear but Excellent overall. I am also including a genuine modern era 16mm Logines-signed steel buckle, the wings logo matching the dial perfectly.
I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form.
This great 100% genuine Longines Admiral is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.
Thanks for looking,
