Hi Everyone,

I’ve been experimenting more with vintage re-luming lately and just wanted to share my results.

Watch came in looking like this

Lume was looking a little rough and the customer wanted it to be a closer match. I ordered new hands (so that the original hands were kept with the watch).

Here are the re-lume results.

Im pretty happy with the results and just wanted to share!

Ashton.

Did you use tritium paint? I have a guy looking for tritium repainting of hands, did you custom match the color?
looks great.
Did you paint the second counter? Looks like a crease in the paint or is that the lighting?

It’s an imperfection in the paint. You don’t often see perfect vintage watch hands, I like to add imperfections in on purpose. No, I don’t use tritium. It’s super luminova I colour match.

Being devils advocate here. Before it looked like you had fungus on your lume, now because of nick in the chrono lume hand it is apparent that you've had the hands relumed. Vintage hands do have imperfections its true, but not like that.

I suggest you look at a few more vintage watch hands.

Also, if you read the post you’d know that they are completely different hands.

By posting the pics in the first place. It is a forum, literally by definition that is a place of discussion. I didn't see the tick box I had to sign to say that only 'good job' type posts were invited. Its a nice colour match but there it is.

Never asked for an opinion. Yet again, more proof you’ve casually scrolled through and haven’t actually read anything. I’m more than happy to receive feedback and criticism, from well informed individuals.

For your viewing pleasure. An untouched 1680 with a very similar hand defect.

True, but there is still the common decency to not criticize unless asked for. But “do you” I guess.

Definitely a huge improvement! This is just in case you wanted to try experimenting with tritium: I had seen in our parts section, there was a member selling vials of tritium powder. Edit- fixed an autocorrect
https://omegaforums.net/threads/nos-original-tritium-lume-powder.111348/

Thanks for that! I’d definitely be interested in giving it a go. I really don’t know all the rules and regulations surrounding it though. I should look into it.

Cracks in the lume look a bit different than an indent in the lume. I think the cracking in the Rolex give it more of an aged look (cause it is) where the indent looks less “natural”

So, it’s very easy to get rid of the indent, if that’s what you want. The customer was super happy and that’s the important part to me. If you want cracks, you can have cracks, perfectly smooth, we got that too. Indents, if that’s your thing.
