Vintage Speedmaster on the 'bay questions

Hi, this is my first post here and it seems like these type of threads may be appropriate because they fall under 'help'. If not, my apologies and feel free to flag/remove.

There's a 145.022-71 I'm looking at on eBay and I have a couple of questions and concerns, mainly:
- The bezel. Pictures aren't great, but it seems that the lower right quadrant of the insert (from say 120 up to about 350 or so) is right up against or under the outer edge of the bezel.
- Fit of the bracelet to the case. There's a bit of a gap, and I'm guessing not much to worry about here but thought I'd ask anyway. Bracelet looks genuine to me, but I'm new at this at the same time.
- No movement pics. Hasn't been serviced but I'd expect to take in for a service anyway.
- Price seems a bit high, but it's OBO. Given that that another member got a nice -69 for a few hundred under this and that got some flak for being a bit high...but that seems like a nice/nicer one than this. Speedmaster101 rating for good to very good, where I put this one, is 3600-5200 for the watch head only.

Thanks in advance for your inputs. If anything, this has been a great learning experience and hunting has been tremendous fun.

Greetings and welcome to the forum, you've posted in the correct spot. Being a noob myself, I will not offer any comments but am sure you will get some expert guidance. Good luck with your purchase.

Edit: I would suggest more and better pictures if you can.

Bezel is fine for me.

The problem is the dial. The indexes have turned greenish/brown (not the kind I like). I guess that, with a bit of patience, you could find a better one for that price.

Cheers

Agreed. Aged tritium should look more like this.

I agree with both Seaborg and qbesq that the lume on the hour markers is unattractive. The most important feature for me on any watch I buy is the dial. I am not saying every watch dial I have ever purchased is perfect, definitely not, but, all, have been pleasing to my naked eye. I too believe you can find a better example.

Definitely overpriced. Plus no movement pics. But if you like it make an offer. See how low he'll go.

A little high for that dial and hand condition imho.

you really need to look at those for any 145.022-7x

The bracelet should be either a 1039 with 516 endlinks or a 1116 with 575 endlinks.

A range of bracelets are correct for 71...

1035 is not outside reason... 1171's and 1175's are also available at that time. Holzer Jubilees are also possible...

It just looks a bit rough and tired for the money, I’d want some movement photos too as that dial may have gotten that way from moisture intrusion.

Just a tip

Adding link here it would have been gone if it was a good price and good watch before the first person answered your question. 😉

Thanks, I'm glad I posted here. I agree, more and better pics would be better. It appears that this is an eBay selling service of sorts, selling on behalf of the owner. FWIW they have been responsive.

Thanks for pointing this out. The rest of the watch seems to be pretty strong, even though the price is a bit high. Looking into it now I'd want to know why it aged that way.

That's some nice patina there, I like it. It looks like the 3590.50 models which I'm guessing yours is like to age pleasantly in that way.

I'm now agreeing with these sentiments and line of thought as the dial is focal point. Thank you.

Agree that movement photos are a must. For the money yes, I'd expect slightly better condition for this watch. But if this watch was either in better shape or cheaper, it would probably be gone by now!

Yep, that's the risk I was willing to take 😀 Chalk it up to the noob tax I suppose.

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far, I really appreciate it. To me initially, the dial seemed ok and the from the lacking pics, I thought the watch presents overall nicely otherwise. I'm glad that this thread has focused me toward the dial condition because I wasn't putting as high a priority on it initially.

Thanks for your input and for the bracelet info. I've seen both -69 and -71 models with various 'original' bracelets on offer. It's been fun trying to keep up with the variations...seems like a recurring Speedy Pro theme : )
