Vintage Seamaster - unsure if genuine

Hi there. My first post on here - spent a lot of time reading and researching and now I'm ready to pull the trigger on a 60s Seamaster cal565. Spotted this watch online in my hometown of Norwich (sadly I now live 300 miles away) but on checking the Omega Db it seems to suggest 166.010 should be a 1962 not 1968 watch. Am I right here? Also not sure if the date magnifier is typical of this period? Otherwise my somewhat novice eye seems to think this watch looks genuine but any advice gratefully received. Thanks

The watch looks ok to me, but the price is crazy.

Agree with Dan. With that money you can buy 024 or a constellation pie pan.

Thanks both. I thought the price was a bit steep - most I'd found online were £1k or under. I do love the constellation pie pan too but I hadn't looked into the 024 before so thanks for the tip here. I think I'll try to stay looking at watches for sale on here and try not to be tempted by dealers in future!

024 and 010 share the same case reference and the difference is 010 use caliber 562/565. 024 uses Chronometer graded 564.

The one you posted is good, commit the details to memory- they should look like that (fonts, minute track, dial finish), but yeah- twice overpriced. That said, if it was indeed serviced by a watchmaker (and not "our guy"), and they can show evidence of that, it may not hurt to reach out to them and make a fair offer.
And '68 would be appropriate for an 010, the ones that look like this from the early 60's were the 14xxx series.

Thanks JwRosenthal. I may drop them an email tomorrow. I do still have family in Norwich who could go and check any evidence of servicing before I commit too. Would have to be the right price though. Also thanks for clarifying my 1962/68 issue - very much appreciated. Is the date magnifier usual? I wondered if the crystal had been replaced at some point?

You may want to search the forum for threads on this seller before asking a family member to visit.

The prices on all their listing are a joke but then I saw at the bottom of the site "powered by Etsy." It made sense after that. Etsy sellers of items like watches and cameras always drastically overprice their items.

Case has been butchered
Oh my 😲 And the wrong crown- didn't look at that.

date magnifier was an option- you should be able to see the omega symbol in the middle of the glass just under the surface.

Everything points to walk away. They pop up on this forum in the classified's a few times a year for the prices we are discussing- and they go fast so be ready to pounce when you see one.

I bought this 1968 one a few months ago. It came from Japan and had documents showing that it had been serviced shortly before I bought it. I paid about £750 including duty and shipping. There are a couple of marks on the dial, by the 10 indice. It has a 565 movement.

Chrono24, where I found it, still have a selection of 166.010 on offer at present. Some nicer and some not. Some have BoR bracelets, which mine didn’t.

Bear in mind the 20% import duty if you purchase from outside the EEC.

Really appeciate everyone's insights here. I've learnt so much more in the last 24 hours alone! I'll have a look on chrono24 and keep my eyes peeled on here too. I'm in no rush after all.
