nothing really, no similar model, stainless steel for 400usd, bad condition, other gold cap for 1400usd sold. Price checking like this is a bit joke for me because I'm asking particular model and as long as it's not base model common watch, then range is too big and make small sense. That's why I'm asking specialist here, to price check this particular watch.

How about a bit more context? Are you trying to sell the watch? If someone is selling it to you, what's the asking price?

The value won't depend much on the specific reference. Search more broadly for gold-capped Seamasters from the era in similar condition. You can look at sold eBay items and also sold items on the forum. Collect some realistic comps. I know there are good comps on the forum, because I sold one myself. Try harder.

I'm interested in bying it, asking price is 1200usd.
Is it forbidden to ask about people idea of the price? Why cant you just say what you think instead of giving me advices how can I check?
I know how can I do that, chrono24, ebay, but still its someones else watch, I need a voice on this exact example. Do I really need to put a long story of what why and how just to get a short answer of forum people what they think it can be worth?

The simple answer is that the value is what you are willing to pay and what the seller is willing to accept.

There are way too many variables in this equation (location, personal preferences, cost of service, customs, sales tax, VAT, postage, etc.) that it is almost impossible to accurately appraise a value to a watch from a few online pictures.

Another factor is that many of the experts on this board are getting tired of being used as a free appraisal service. Jewelry stores generally charge for written appraisals for insurance purposes. Should we?

Ok, it explains better than just advicing me what should I do.
If you dont want to do price check or just dont do it at all, simply say it, will be easier for everyone.
Or price checking should be forbidden, then close all related topics and no problem, I was just asking.

It's a gold-plated 14701. Some scuffs, but the plating's not worn through. I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred dollars for it, unless you were desperate for that specific watch. Sold listings on ebay come up with nothing (or: one listed as a 14701 that was not, in fact, that reference). They're great watches, but not $1200 for gold plated (and, imo, not even for one in steel, unless it was NOS).

Also, just at an abstract level, asking about the 'value' of a watch is incredibly, incredibly tricky. If you'd offered more details about the circumstances and why you were asking, people would've been able to help more easily. Not at all a criticism, just a note.

@Wizzar

You have to understand that this is a forum of watch enthusiasts - who you don't know personally and who don't know you.

I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't walk into your local horological society meeting and stand in the middle of the room and say

"Would you help me to get value of this watch?"

I realise that we need to make allowances for cultural differences and working in a second language but sometimes it's not just what you ask but the way you ask it.

A little bit of 'greasing the wheels' goes a long way when you are asking a favour of strangers.

looks like gold-capped to me, most likely with a solid 14k bezel.
An altogether different animal to gold plated.

The case looks pretty good to me and it seems to have a decent dial - unfortunately I don't have a scoobies on the sale prices of these watches, so I'm afraid I can't help you there @Wizzar

It's not even that we're unwilling to help, I think it's the attitude, which is just confirmed by the subsequent posts. It seems you'd rather spend your time complaining that people won't help you then doing even the bare minimum. Did you even look at the gold-capped Seamaster I sold on the forum? It's mentioned it in my previous post and it's right there in the listings.

Low effort will be met with low effort. And now you removed the original post so we can't see the watch in question.

I just dont like to discuss something obvious
I just kindly ask for advice, noone did it beside telling me how should I behave and I even tried advices (may I still be curious about YOUR personal thoughts on price?). I'm not a guy for whom this is 1st post, and I see nothing wrong with it, if you do, ok. Result? No topic, it's way better than listening to theories why shouldnt I even ask and judging my effort level, lol.
Relax

I seem to recall that we have been down this path before.

-and I’m afraid that it’s not all about you @Wizzar.

You’ve chosen to be part of a community here and the community expects a certain level of engagement and civility - neither of which is an unreasonable ask.

I dont see myself any of what you mentioned. I just asked and when I saw that you dont want to help me I'm not blaming anyone. I just said it makes no sense to continue.
I'm really surprised that you all add something more to it

There is a saying that a clear sign of madness is repeating the same behaviour and expecting a different outcome.

In your case, I suspect that it is simply a clear sign of callowness.

You keep doing you but please don’t expect a different outcome.
