Vintage Seamaster from 1963 with some issues

Hey guys, I got this one as a gift. I love it, but it doesn't work. It's a 166.010 cal. 562. The date changes between six and nine when manually set. Any ideas on this issue? After doing some research already, I am still not sure if the second hand is too short and secondly I am confused with the font of the word Seamaster since there seem to be two versions of the "S". My other Seamaster has a different one. Can anyone please clarify this issue? Thank you very much!

The second hand looks non-original to me: slightly to short and the wrong form for the short end.

There is indeed not only one form of the S in Seamaster, the “coathanger” font does exist. I’m not sure it should be this way on this ref, though, also the printing looks pretty thick to me and the Swiss Made seems to be at an angle - might be a redial, but there are others here who are more qualified to verify.

The hour and minute hands likely need to be removed and placed in different positions to synch with the date change.

It's an older redial, and the second hand is indeed too short (May have been from a different reference). As far as I remember, the 562 should be in the earlier 14xxx reference that has this case shape, the 166.010 should have the later 565- although I'm not sure when the change-over happened.

Wow, I guess I wouldn't think of this simple solution myself. I hope my watchmaker would😀 thank you

Thank you all! This one has a special meaning for me, as it was a gift from a friend. So in this case I am OK with a redial and short second hand, since I will wear it myself if it hopefully will work again... Any suggestions on what might be wrong and how much it could cost to repair it?

Who knows, the movement looks rough, with corrosion and rotor rub. I think your watchmaker will have to go through it thoroughly.

It's more than likely: The minute hand shows 8 minutes after the hour, while the hour hand is halfway between 9 and 10. I'm ashamed to say I didn't notice this until I read your post.
